Thailand is well known for its scenic beauty, welcoming people and delicious cuisine. This tour showcases the very best of this wonderful country from the historic palaces and waterways of Bangkok to the intrigue and mystique of the Golden Triangle. You'll love it!

Discover the real Bangkok

Our Thailand tour starts in the bustling city of Bangkok where we’ll visit the stunning Grand Palace and the Golden Buddha. Here in Bangkok we’ll also take a boat ride along the canals and take in a more traditional side of Thai life as we float past old houses built on stilts and visit a colourful floating market.

The Golden Triangle

As our Thailand tour continues north we’ll enjoy a visit to the World Heritage-listed ruins of Ayutthaya, a fascinating look at a working temple and a full day excursion to the Golden Triangle. In the Golden Triangle we’ll visit various hill tribes, a tea plantation and take a cruise on the Mekong River where the borders of Thailand, Burma and Laos meet.

Itinerary

Day 1 Australia - Bangkok

Welcome to Thailand. On our arrival we will be met and transferred to our hotel.

Day 2 Bangkok

Today we explore the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, one of the largest cities in southeast Asia. Visit the famous Golden Buddha, the world's largest gold statue (more than 900 years old!) plus the revered Grand Palace which covers more than 230 acres! We then see a side of traditional Thai life as we explore the fascinating klongs (canals) of Bangkok. Here we'll see why Bangkok used to be called the 'Venice of the East'. Tonight get to know your fellow travellers at our welcome dinner. [B,D]

Day 3 Bangkok

We head out of Bangkok to the colourful floating markets of Damnoen Saduak. We'll see the timeless lifestyle of Thai people buying and selling produce from small boats paddled by women along the canals. Make sure you try some of the local delicacies on offer! In the evening we enjoy a dinner cruise along the Chao Praya River, with live music. [B,D]

Day 4 Bangkok - Kanchanaburi

SPECIAL EXPERIENCE: An emotional day as we visit Hellfire Pass with its impressive Australian-funded museum and memorial to our WWII diggers.

Day 5 Kanchanaburi - Phitsanulok

Day 6 Phitsanulok - Chiang Rai

Time to get spiritual as we take a fascinating ‘behind the scenes’ tour of a working temple. Then it’s on to the spectacular ruins at Sukhothai where you'll glimpse the former greatness of this city, preserved in architectural monuments including an 11-metre seated Buddha, palace buildings, temples and moats. This grand city was once Thailand’s capital for more than 200 years. Later we continue to Chiang Rai. [B,L]

Day 7 Chiang Rai

A full day at leisure to relax at the hotel's massive lagoon pool or take a trip into town. [B]

FROM PHITSANULOK

Samlor Tour with Dinner - 2.5 hrs  THB700pp (1900-2130)
This tour is designed for visitors to enjoy Phitsanulok's night time ambience. We travel by samlor (a three wheeled bicycle taxi) to the night market where we enjoy the performance of the “Flying Morning Glory Vegetable Show”. The cook throws a handful of watercress in an extremely hot wok, which starts a fireball of a few feet high. Once cooked the chefs toss the vegetables some distance onto plates. It is a very enjoyable, yet interesting experience!

This dinner is a welcoming introduction to the traditional northern Thai (Lanna) form of dining. The food is served on a wooden pedestal tray, called "Khantoke". The diners sit on the floor around the Khantoke, supported by triangular cushions. While guest enjoy the meal there is a performance of traditional northern Thai (Lanna) dance.

Traditional Thai Massage - 2 hrs - THB575pp
This Thai relaxation massage is a must! It dates back from the Ayutthaya period and takes 2 hours to complete. The first hour concentrates on your feet and legs, the second on your arms, shoulders, back and head.

Thai Cooking Class - 4 hrs - THB1000pp (0900-1300)
You will travel with the chef to the local markets where the Thai ingredients and vegetables are explained. Then continue on to the Chef’s home and cooking centre where you will create a range of delicious dishes under the guidance of the chef. Go for a light breakfast this morning because as you finish each dish you get to eat it! Each person is given a small Thai cookbook to take home as a reminder of the day.

Elephant Trek - 3.5hrs - THB1200pp
This optional tour includes an elephant trek, ox cart ride, lunch and a river cruise. The elephant ride takes you across the river along small paths through the jungle.
