Currency

Egypt, Egyptian Pound

The official currency in Egypt is the Egyptian pound (£)

  • 1 Egyptian Pound = 100 Piastre (Pt)
  • Notes are in denominations of £200, 100, 50, 20, 10, 5, 1, 0.50, 0.25, 0.10 and 0.05
  • Coins are in denominations of £1 and 50, 25, 20, 10, 5 and 1 Piastre

Please Note:  It's best to build up a supply of the small bills because you'll need them for baksheesh (a request for a tip for services rendered) and small purchases, and many shopkeepers and cabbies will not have - or claim they don't have - change

Israel, New Israeli Shekel/Sheqel

Jordan, Jordanian Dinar

The national currency in Jordan is the Jordanian dinar (, abbreviated and generally referred to as JD.

  • 1 dinar = 100 piasters or 1,000 fils. For example, a price of 3.750 means 3 dinars and 750 fils.
  • Notes are in the denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 dinars.
  • Coins are in the denominations of 1, 1/2 and 1/4 dinars, and 1/2, 1, 2.5, 5 and 10 piastres.

Please Note: Major credit cards are widely accepted in hotels, upmarket shops and restaurants. It is best to carry local currency in smaller notes or coins, as vendors never seem to have change. It is also very handy when you want to give a tip. Also, Jordanian currency should be left in the country, therefore exchange your currency prior to leaving.

Reviews for Egypt, Israel & Jordan

This tour has a rating of 5 stars based on 3 reviews.

Here's what others have had to say about this tour.

Egypt, Israel & Jordan The whole trip was memorable 5
The days were filled with multiple activities which kept the momentum and interest going. This coupled with the expertise and personalities of the guides and drivers made it a truly memorable and fun trip. I would like to congratulate Bunnik on being such a wonderfully organised and efficient travel company. Looking forward to further travels with you. Margaret Vesey - April 2012
Egypt, Israel & Jordan Extremely enjoyable and interesting 4
As I sift through about 5000 photos, I realise how utterly amazing it all was, and how much we saw. We followed the guides clambering over Crusader castle walls, into tunnels and on to ramparts. We marched along Roman roads, sat in acoustically perfect amphitheatres and saw Byzantine churches. Thank you for your excellent tours. Jean McPhee - October 2012
Egypt, Israel & Jordan Egypt was marvellous 5
I liked the size of our small group - only 6 of us. Our small bus could always find a park near the sites. The pyramids were the highlight of our trip. Margaret Senior - October 2013
