Description

Take an in-depth journey back in time to the ancient worlds of Egypt & Jordan. Explore bustling Cairo, cruise down the Nile, float in the Dead Sea and discover the wonders of Petra. This tour has it all!
Take this fantastic Egypt and Jordan tour and you’ll discover a whole world of awe-inspiring pyramids, magnificent monuments, beautiful temples and fascinating history. Our Egypt and Jordan tour starts in Amman, the capital of Jordan. It’s then on to the Dead Sea, where we enjoy swimming or (floating!) in the sea and indulging in Dead Sea mud treatments – known for their purifying qualities.

Discover the Lost City

Our Jordan tour continues to Petra. To see what awaits you in this amazing destination click the photo opposite to watch Dennis Bunnik's recent video footage. The entrance is located at the end of a dark, narrow chasm; words cannot describe the unique beauty of the magnificent entrance to the Treasury. Carved deep into the rich red sandstone, it has a stunning glow to it. Once inside it’s simply amazing as there is a whole underground city to explore. No Egypt and Jordan tour is complete without a visit to Petra – seeing really is believing! From Jordan we fly to Egypt and begin our Egypt tour in Cairo, standing in front of the awe-inspiring Great Pyramids of Giza before continuing on to Luxor and the impressive open-air museum, the Valley of the Kings.

Exploring Egypt

The next part of our Egypt tour is a cruise along Egypt’s Nile River. On the way we stop to enjoy more famous sights of Egypt including the riverside temple of Kom Ombo, the wonderful Edfu temple, and much more. Next stop is Egypt’s beautiful temples of Abu Simbel, where the 4 imposing statues at the entrance stand the height of a 5 storey building.
We end this wonderful tour back in Cairo with a visit to the world-famous Egyptian Museum, home to Tutankhamen's priceless treasures, the Citadel of Cairo and the Mohammed Ali Mosque, before a trip to the lively Khan El Khalili bazaar.

Welcome to Jordan. On arrival, we are met and transferred to the hotel. This evening we enjoy a delicious group welcome dinner. [D]

DAY 3 JERASH

Today we head back in time as we begin our tour of Jordan, visiting the beautifully preserved Roman cities of Umm Qais and Jerash, as well as the impressive Ajloun Castle. [B,D]

DAY 4 AMMAN - DEAD SEA

We start our day at the biblical Mt Nebo, where Moses is said to have been shown the Promised Land. Then it's on to the Dead Sea, where the salt content of the water is four times that of most oceans, making swimming here a truly unique experience! [B,L,D]

SPECIAL EXPERIENCE: Take a swim in the Dead Sea where you can float without trying, or cover your body in the mud, which is said to have theraputic benefits for your skin.

DAY 5 DEAD SEA - WADI RUM

Today we head south to the desert of Wadi Rum. We take a camel ride before spending the night in a Bedouin camp underneath a blanket of stars. [B,L,D]

DAY 6 WADI RUM - AQABA

We enjoy a thrilling jeep tour of this rock and sand landscape, guided by local Bedouin tribesmen who still live in the traditional nomadic way. Later, we continue south to Aqaba, Jordan’s only coastal city. Surrounded by picturesque mountains and the Red Sea, Aqaba is Jordan’s major tourism resort and only seaport. Enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure to explore or relax. [B,D]

DAY 7 AQABA - PETRA

We'll experience the warm crystal-clear waters of the Red Sea as we cruise through the Aqaba Marine Park, before making our way to Petra with a stop en route to visit Al Beidha or, as it is also known, "Little Petra". Hidden away amidst the spectacular hills, this miniature version of Petra is thought to date back more than 9,000 years and is historically significant in its own right. [B,L,D]

DAY 8 PETRA

A real tour highlight today, as we see one of the most recognisable sites in the world first-hand; the famous lost city of Petra. Built by the Arab Nabataeans more than 2,000 years ago, Petra was an important junction for the silk, spice and other trade routes that linked the ancient Eastern world with that of the West. [B,D]

DAY 16 NILE CRUISE

The temple was abandoned in 391 AD and lay buried in sand until it was rediscovered in the 1860s. We then sail on to the riverside temple of Kom Ombo, before continuing to Aswan. [B,L,D]

DAY 17 NILE CRUISE

An early desert crossing as we head towards the incredible temples of Abu Simbel. The afternoon is at leisure. [B,L,D]

Currency

Currency

Jordan, Jordanian Dinar

The official currency in Jordan is the Jordanian dinar (JOD or unofficially JD)

  • 1 Jordanian Dinar = 100 piastres or 1,000 fils. For example, a price of 3.750 means 3 dinars and 750 fils
  • Notes are in the denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 dinars
  • Coins are in the denominations of 1, 0.5 and 0.25 dinars, and 0.5, 1, 2.5, 5 and 10 piastres

Please Note: Major credit cards are widely accepted in hotels, upmarket shops and restaurants. It is best to carry local currency in smaller notes or coins, as vendors never seem to have change. It is also very handy when you want to give a tip. Also, Jordanian currency should be left in the country, therefore exchange your currency prior to leaving.

Egypt, Egyptian Pound

The official currency in Egypt is the Egyptian Pound (EGP; symbol £)

  • 1 Egyptian Pound = 100 Piastre (Pt)
  • Notes are in denominations of £200, 100, 50, 20, 10, 5, 1, 0.50 and 0.25
  • Coins are in denominations of £1 and 50, 25, 20, 10 and 5 Piastres

Please Note:  It's best to build up a supply of the small bills because you'll need them for baksheesh (a request for a tip for services rendered) and small purchases, and many shopkeepers and cabbies will not have - or claim they don't have - change

Levels of Fitness

I recently travelled with 5 others for 25 days in Jordan & Egypt. It was simply the best holiday experienced. Our group had such fun, so many laughs. Our guide Ibrahim & driver Mazin were the best! Egypt was amazing but I fell in love with Jordan - Wadi Rum, Little Petra, Jerash, Petra, Amman's citadel all favorites. Enjoying fresh desserts, traditional dishes, beautiful hotels...congratulations Bunnik, you have got this right. I would ask that Ibrahim and Maxin become Bunnik's preferred guide & driver! Top notch. Adrienne DeKuyer - February 2015
Egypt & Jordan in Depth Felt safe and and no crowds in Egypt and Jordan. 4
Jordan was fantastic - so much history. We really enjoyed the Nile cruise which gave us relaxed access to Luxor, Aswan and the places in between. Great to see both Jordan and Egypt with such small crowds. Trevor Watt - October 2014
Egypt & Jordan in Depth Jordan, Egypt and Bahariya Oasis - a definite must to visit... 5
Don't believe all the media hype about Israel, Jordan and Egypt - I didn't experience any feeling of danger or fear anywhere. Petra, Umm Quais, Jerash and Wadi Rum in Jordan - fantastic! Luxor, the Nile Cruise, Abu Simbel and the Egyptian Museum in Cairo well worth visiting just to see Tutankhamen's gold mask, jewellery and inner sarcophagi - awesome! Then Baharyia Oasis - dune 'surfing' in a 4x4 Landcruiser over the golden sands just outside the oasis - exhilerating! Thanks Bunnik - two fabulous and memorable tours. Ros Burton - September 2014
Egypt & Jordan in Depth I felt it would be good to travel in a small group this time - turned out I was right! 5
In Egypt, it seemed that the temples got better & better as we went further south. Also, the Nile Cruise was around the middle of the tour, so we could really relax. Both guides were very sensitive to our needs, flexible & patient; no question/need was too difficult for either of them. Of course they were also very knowledgeable, especially Ibrahim, with his passion for Egyptology. Cathy Robertsor - March 2014
Egypt & Jordan in Depth Petra was amazing... 4
..a much larger area and more to see than I had understood it to be. I really enjoyed the atmosphere in the Crusader castles in Jordan. I was expecting a knight in armour to walk around a corner and tables to be covered in food; TV memories perhaps. Karnak temple and entering 3 of the tombs in the Valley of the Kings were my Egyptian highlights. Dennis Kimberley - November 2012
Egypt & Jordan in Depth It really was perfect 5
We felt so lucky to be able to see all the wonderful sites with so few other tourists around, we had the best guides in Jordan, Othman made us feel like part of his family Carole Bassam - November 2013
Egypt & Jordan in Depth All Egypt was a highlight, especially having it to ourselves! 5
Dead Sea (and the hotel) was incredible, a must see. View from Umm Quais over all the biblical lands awesome. Alison & Dave Nelson - September 2013
Egypt & Jordan in Depth Enjoyed the whole trip. 4
There is a lot more to Jerash and Petra than I thought. Liked Aswan. We went to Dubai before starting our Tour and we really enjoyed Dubai. Joanne Gehrke - January 2013
Egypt & Jordan in Depth I think we saw everything at it's best! 5
Getting to places early before the crowds was really good & I took hundreds of photographs with not too many tourists in them. Marion Neville - March 2012
