A Taste of Sri Lanka Itinerary
Day 1 Australia - Colombo
Arrive in Colombo where you are met and transferred to your hotel in nearby Negombo.
Day 2 Negombo
Morning at leisure to unwind after your journey. In the afternoon we take a tour of Negombo followed by a boat ride on the Gin Oya River. This evening we are treated to a barbecue dinner set up by a local family. [B,D]
Day 3 Negombo - Sigiriya
An amazing morning as we visit the world famous Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage. After a filling feed, the elephants are led to the local river for a bath and refreshing swim. We then continue to Sigiriya for our four night stay. [B,D]
Day 4 Anuradhapura
This morning we visit the impressive ruins of ancient Anuradhapura. Return to Sigiriya via the Ritigala Medicinal Forest and some nearby ruins which lie hidden within a beautiful forest setting of streams and pools. [B,D]
Day 5 Polonnaruwa - Minneriya
After a morning visit to the ancient capital of Polonnaruwa, we go looking for wild elephants in Minneriya National Park. [B,D]
Day 6 Sigiriya
Get ready to find out about Sri Lankan life as we take a unique opportunity to meet the locals in a small rural village. After an interesting morning, we visit the famous rock fortress of Sigiriya. This amazing monument is considered one of the wonders of the world. [B,D]
Day 7 Sigiriya - Kandy
An early morning visit to the surreal cave temple of Dambulla, home to more than 1,000 Buddha statues. We then enjoy the vivid colours and enticing aromas of the Matale spice plantations before continuing to Kandy to see the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, one of the most sacred sites of the Buddhist religion. [B]
Day 8 Kandy
This morning we visit the stunning Royal Botanical Gardens in Kandy before enjoying a tour of colonial Kandy including its impressive historical museum and a performance by local dancers. [B]
Day 9 Kandy - Nuwara Eliya
Today we travel on a local train up to the lush tea growing region of Nuwara Eliya. [B,D]
Day 10 Nuwara Eliya
Ceylon tea is famous all over the world. Today we enjoy a city tour of Nuwara Eliya and visit a tea plantation to learn about the tea making process and sample the local brew. [B]
Day 11 Nuwara Eliya - Yala
A beautiful scenic drive through the mountains takes us back to the coast and our relaxing nature resort at Yala. [B,D]
Day 12 Yala
Today we go on safari in the Yala NP where we have the chance to see fascinating animals including leopards, elephants, wild buffalo and black bears. [B,D]
Day 13 Yala - Unawatuna
We drive along the beautiful south coast of Sri Lanka to the beach resort town of Unawatuna. The afternoon is at leisure to relax by the beach. [B,D]
Day 14 Unawatuna
This morning is free to enjoy the sun, sea and sand. We later take a guided tour of the great walled city of Galle including the huge Dutch Fort which holds a commanding position on the seafront. We end the day with a relaxing catamaran ride on Koggala Lake. [B,D]
Day 15 Unawatuna - Colombo
After breakfast we drive to the capital Colombo visiting a turtle hatchery on the way. Our orientation tour of Colombo includes a visit to the popular Cricket Club Café run by two Australians. [B]
Day 16 Depart Colombo
Today is at leisure. We have the day use of the hotel until our evening transfer to the airport for our flight back to Australia. [B]
Day 17 Arrive in Australia
**Kandy Festival Tour**
17 Aug is the Kandy festival Watch in awe as hundreds of decorated elephants and thousands of dancers, drummers, torch bearers and whip crackers in traditional costumes weave their way through the colourful streets of Kandy.
