From Alexandria, follow the route of Field Marshal Montgomery to El Alamein, visit the Commonwealth War Cemetary and see the fields of battle where Rommel's infamous WWII advance on Cairo was halted.

Itinerary

Day 1  Cairo - Alexandria
You depart Cairo this morning for Alexandria on the Mediterranean coast, approximately 3 hours' drive from Cairo. Sightseeing in Alexandria includes the National Museum, the Catacomb of Kom el Shogafa, Pompey’s Pillar and the New Bibliotheca. Overnight in Alexandria. [L]

Day 2   Alexandria - El Alamein - Alexandria
After breakfast you drive west along the Mediterranean coast towards El Alamein, which is known for its serenity, fascinating scenery and mild climate. El Alamein has great historical importance as its sands were the stage for one of the most decisive battles of the Second World War. During this battle more than 8,000 soldiers from the Allied troops, led by Montgomery, as well as many axis troops led by Rommel lost their lives. You will visit the Commonwealth War Cemetery which includes thousands of tombs of war victims from Britain, New Zealand, Australia, France, India and Malta. You also stop to visit the interesting El Alamein Military Museum with its many paintings and five main halls representing the countries that participated in the battle. Later in the day you return to Alexandria. [B,L]

Day 3   Alexandria - Cairo
This morning is at leisure for you to relax or further explore Alexandria. This afternoon you return to Cairo. [B]
