Highlights
Travel north from Cairo to the stunning Sinai Peninsula and discover the spectacular scenery of rugged mountain peaks and multi-coloured sands. The peninsula is separated from mainland Egypt by the Suez Canal with the Mediterranean Sea to the north and the Red Sea to the south. Rise early for an energetic climb to the top of Mt Sinai and witness a breathtaking sunrise from the summit. At the base of the mountain is St Catherine's Monastery, built in the 6th century to enclose the Chapel of the Burning Bush - christians believe the living bush on the grounds is the original and the site remains an important pilgrimage destination. Aside from its religious significance, the monastery is also home to one of the largest and most important collections of illuminated manuscripts in the world.

Day 2 St Catherines - Cairo
Early this morning (around midnight) start your climb to the summit of Mount Sinai at an altitude of 2295m (approximately 3 hours) to witness the absolutely spectacular view at sunrise on Mount Sinai. Although disputed by some archaeologists and historians, the Christians, Jews and Muslims believed that God gave Moses the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai. On the summit there is a Greek Orthodox chapel containing beautiful paintings and ornaments and a small Mosque. On your descent visit the Monastery of St. Catherine’s at the foot of Mount Sinai. This is one of the few remaining Christian churches to survive from the time when the Roman empress Helena had a small chapel built beside what was believed to be the burning bush from which God spoke to Moses. The nearby Well of Moses is supposed to give marital happiness to those who drink the water! The museum contains an amazing collection of icons, gold and silver crosses. Return to Cairo arriving early evening. [B]
