Burma Discovery - OLD Itinerary
Day 1 Depart Australia
Your tour begins today! Depending on your Australian departure city, it will either be a night in Singapore or an overnight flight to Singapore.
Day 2 Arrive in Yangon
Upon arrival in Yangon, known in Burma as Rangoon, we are welcomed and transferred to our hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Tonight enjoy a welcome dinner at Karaweik Palace with a traditional show. [D]
Day 3 Yangon - Bagan
This morning we fly to Bagan which is built on the plains of the Ayeyarwaddy River. The river flows through the centre of Burma and is its most important commercial waterway. We end the day at a pagoda to watch the sun set over a mystical landscape. [B]
Day 4 Bagan
We spend a second day exploring Bagan, taking time to soak up the unique spiritual atmosphere of this amazing place. The area surrounding Bagan is dotted with thousands of temple ruins, some dating back more than 800 years. Our touring in Bagan includes several of the country’s most important pagodas. [B]
Day 5 Irrawaddy Princess Cruise
This morning we board the Irrawaddy Princess for our journey to Mandalay. We stop at Pakkoku and see where the Ayeyarwaddy and Chindwin rivers join, before flowing on. The boat berths overnight at the small village of Yandabo, where you can observe the happenings of day-to-day rural Burmese life. [B,L,D]
Day 6 Irrawaddy Princess Cruise
We enjoy a leisurely day cruising towards Mandalay. Sit back, relax and watch the countryside glide past. [B,L,D]
Day 7 Arrive in Mandalay
This morning we arrive in Mandalay, which was set up as the capital when the British finally conquered Burma. Mandalay is the economic hub of Upper Burma, and considered the centre of Burmese culture. The rest of the day is at leisure. [B]
Day 8 Mandalay
Today we tour the ancient city of Inwa, taking a horse cart ride around the peaceful countryside to see how local artisans make the famous alms bowls out of iron. We also visit Sagaing, the religious centre of Burma with more than 3,000 resident monks. At sunset we join the locals for a stroll along U Bein’s Bridge at Amarapura. [B]
Day 9 Mandalay
This morning we travel by boat upstream to the town of Mingun to see the massive Mingun Paya monument before returning for a tour of Mandalay. We visit Mandalay Hill to enjoy a spectacular sunset. [B]
Day 10 Mandalay - Pindaya
Our morning flight today takes us to Heho where we continue on to the Pindaya Caves. Located on a ridge overlooking the Pindaya Lake, the caves house more than 8,000 Buddha images. Some of the older statues and images in the cave have inscriptions dating to the late 1700s, or early Konbaung period. [B]
Day 11 Pindaya - Inle Lake
We continue to Inle Lake. Here we cruise the lake and visit the floating gardens, a floating market, an Intha village and Inn Paw Khon Village where lotus and silk weaving is a speciality. [B]
Day 12 Inle Lake - Yangon
We enjoy a wonderful boat trip on Inle Lake where the calm waters are dotted with small fishing villages built on top of floating vegetation. In the village of In Dein we find the Alaung Sittou stupas which have the most stunning views over the lake. This afternoon we drive back to Heho for our flight to back to Yangon. [B]
Day 13 Yangon
Today we explore Yangon, visiting the Shwedagon Pagoda, the National Museum, the Ngadatkyi Paya, and the Sule Pagoda. [B]
Day 14 Depart Yangon
The morning is at leisure before you begin your journey home to Australia. [B]
