Cuban Discovery - OLD Itinerary

Day 1  Australia - Mexico City
Welcome to Mexico. On our late evening arrival in Mexico City we will be met and transferred to our hotel.

Day 2  Mexico City - Havana
This morning we fly on to Havana, the capital of Cuba and home of Fidel Castro. Welcome to one of the most mysterious countries in the world! We are met upon arrival by our friendly guide and transferred to our hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to relax before tonight’s group welcome dinner. [B,D]

Day 3  Havana - Santiago de Cuba
We tour Havana this morning, first by horse-drawn carriage and later we return to the hotel by classic American car. This afternoon we fly to Santiago de Cuba which is where Castro and Che Guevara started their revolution. [B,L]

Day 4  Santiago de Cuba
Santiago de Cuba is the second-largest city in Cuba. Here we take an interesting tour of the city including the historic Casa de Velazquez and the Island of Granma which is located in the middle of the bay. [B,L]

Day 5  Santiago de Cuba - Baracoa
A day of stunning coastal scenery as we travel via Gran Piedra to Baracoa. Along the way we pass the infamous Guantanamo Bay. [B]

Day 6  Baracoa
Today we explore beautiful Baracoa which is where Columbus first set foot on Cuban soil. We also enjoy an excursion to a Yumuri Indian village, where we learn their way of life and culture.  [B,L]

Day 7  Baracoa - Camaguey
We travel to Camaguey, the third-largest city in Cuba with a real agricultural base. En route we also stop at Bayamo, which is home to numerous monuments relating to its history of fighting for the freedom of slaves. [B]

Day 8  Camaguey - Trinidad
We tour the narrow streets of Camaguey by rickshaw before travelling to Trinidad. Trinidad is a UNESCO World Heritage city with its intact old town, churches, colonial palaces and cobblestoned streets. The city became rich in the 1800s due to the local sugar fields and slave trade. B]

Day 9  Trinidad-Cienfuegos
Enjoy a wonderful tour of historic Trinidad including the historic city centre, La Chanchanchara, and the Museo de Romantico. [B,L]

Day 10  Cienfuegos
A really fun day as we explore the Escambray Mountains. The mountains were the theatre of the War against the Bandits in 1960-1962. They were also a planned refuge during the failed Bay of Pigs invasion. [B,L]

Day 11  Cienfuegos - Havana
Today we visit the Che Guevara Mausoleum, which is the on the site where the revolution was finally won. We then continue on to Havana. [B]

Day 12  Havana
Today we visit the region of Pinar del Rio, one of the most beautiful regions of Cuba and home to the tobacco industry. Here we take a tour of a cigar factory and see how the famous Cuban cigars are still made by hand. We also visit the Indian Caves of Cuebas de los Indios and the Valley of Vinales. [B,L]

Day 13  Havana
Today is at leisure in Havana, before our lively farewell dinner where you will have the chance to swing with the orchestra and dance salsa Cuban style! [B, D]

Day 14  Havana - Mexico City
This morning we bid farewell to revolutionary Cuba as we travel back to Mexico City. On our arrival we will be met at the airport and transferred to our hotel for our overnight accommodation. The rest of the day is at leisure. [B]

Day 15  Depart Mexico City
This morning is at leisure before we fly to Los Angeles to board our flight home to Australia. [B]
