Sri Lanka - Essence of Sri Lanka Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive Colombo
Welcome to Sri Lanka, you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Colombo.

Day 2 Colombo - Pinnawela - Sigiriya
A fun visit to Pinnawela to visit the elephant orphanage. See the morning feeding of the elephants and watch them bathe and play in the river. Continue to Sigiriya for a 4 night stay. [B,D]

Day 3 Anuradhapura - Ritigala
Today you visit the ancient city of Anuradhapura, the heart of Sri Lankan history and Buddhism. Deep in the jungle you stop and visit Ritigala, a medicinal forest, unspoilt and beautiful with its streams, pools and granite boulders. [B,D]

Day 4 Polonnaruwa - Minneriya NP
Enjoy a visit to the medieval capital of Polonnaruwa. Built alongside a large ancient artificial lake with well-preserved ruins of palaces, bathing pools, stupas and exquisite rock sculptures of Buddha. This afternoon you visit Minneriya National Park by jeep, home to favourites such as sambhur deer and elephants. [B,D]

Day 5 Sigiriya - Rock Fortress
Get acquainted with typical rural life and meet the village folk by walking through a local village and paddy fields. Later visit the rock fortress of Sigiriya famous for its frescoes of “Celestial Maidens.” [B,D]

Day 6 Sigiriya - Dambulla - Matale - Kandy
A visit to the cave temples of Dambulla followed by a visit to Matale’s spice plantations. Continue to Kandy and visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha. Enjoy a 2 night stay in Kandy. [B]

Day 7 Peradeniya - Kandy
This morning, visit the Royal Botanical Gardens of Peradeniya. You continue on to the charming and religiously significant city of Kandy. Here your tour includes a visit to the historical Kandy Museum and in the late afternoon, enjoy a spectacular fire dance performance. [B]

Day 8 Depart Colombo
Transfer to Colombo airport to start your journey home, or take one of our Nuwara Eliya or beach stay extensions. [B]
