Independent Jordan OLD Itinerary

Day 1  Amman
Welcome to Jordan! Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. [D]

Day 2  Amman
Begin your touring of Jordan this morning with a visit to the beautifully preserved Roman cities of Um Qais and Jerash and the impressive Ajlun Castle. The castle is located on the site of an old monastery and was built in 1184. The castle controlled traffic along the road connecting Damascus and Egypt. [B,D]

Day 3  Amman - Dead Sea
Your journey to the Dead Sea is via Mount Nebo, from where Moses first saw the Promised Land, and Madaba, home to some of the finest Byzantine mosaics in the world including the famous 6th century mosaic map of Palestine. Continue to the famous Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth; here you have a chance to swim or float in the buoyant salty waters. [B,L,D]

Day 4  Dead Sea - Petra
This morning after breakfast we continue to Petra, where we take an afternoon visit to “Little Petra.” which has a history dating back some 9,000 years and is one of the oldest archaeological sites in the Middle East. [B,D]

Day 5  Petra
Today will be a truly memorable experience as you explore one of the world’s greatest treasures: the famous lost city of Petra! Petra is without doubt Jordan’s most valuable treasure and greatest tourist attraction. It is a vast, unique city, carved into the sheer rock face by the Nabataeans, an industrious Arab people who settled here more than 2,000 years ago, turning it into an important junction for the silk, spice and other trade routes that linked China, India and southern Arabia with Egypt, Syria, Greece and Rome. Entry to the city is through the Siq, a narrow gorge approximately 800 metres long and flanked on either side by soaring, 80-metre high cliffs. Just walking through the Siq is an experience in itself! The colours and formations of the rocks are dazzling. As you reach the end of the Siq you will catch your first glimpse of the Treasury. [B,D]

Day 6  Wadi Rum
Continue to explore Petra with a second visit this morning, before we travel to the unique desert landscape of Wadi Rum and explore the area on a camel safari. Arrive at your desert campsite for an unforgettable night under a sky of a million stars. [B,L,D]

Day 7  Wadi Rum - Amman
Enjoy an exciting jeep tour of this rock and sand landscape, guided by local Bedouin tribesmen who still live in the traditional nomadic way. This afternoon you begin your journey back to Amman. [B,D]

Day 8  Depart Amman
Today you will bid farewell to Jordan and begin your journey home.  [B]

Please Note:
The ancient sites of Jordan have many uneven and sometime steep trails. Medium-level fitness and good walking shoes are therefore recommended. Less strenuous walks are available as are donkeys and camels on some walks.
