Independent Libya OLD Currency

The currency in Libya is the Libyan dinar (LD). Libyan currency is not available outside the country. Libya is a cash society and you will not be able to change traveller cheques. Although Mastercard and Visa are beginning to make an appearance, do not rely on using credit cards. Even restaurants and hotels that display a credit card sign may not necessarily be accepting cards. A very limited number of ATM machines are available and the guide will know where these are (maximum withdrawal is 300LD each day). US dollars, sterling and euros are the most easily exchangeable currencies - other currencies should be avoided. Your guide will advise you on where to change money and will take you.
