Malaysia - Highlands & Islands - OLD Itinerary

 

Petronas Towers, Kuala LumpurDay 1  Australia - Kuala Lumpur
Welcome to Malaysia. On our arrival in the capital of Kuala Lumpur, we will be met by our friendly local guide and transferred to our hotel. 

Day 2  Kuala Lumpur
We enjoy a morning tour of Kuala Lumpur, also known as the ‘Garden City of Lights.’ Highlights of our tour include the National Monument, the King’s Palace, the National Museum, National Mosque, Merdeka Square, the Sultan Abdul Samad Building and the Petronas Twin Towers – made famous by the film ‘Entrapment’ starring Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta Jones. This afternoon we visit the Batu Caves, so make sure you are wearing comfortable shoes: here we will climb the 272 steps to the entrance of an elaborate complex of gigantic caves which house several important Hindu temples. Tonight’s welcome dinner includes a traditional cultural performance. [B,L,D]

Day 3  Kuala Lumpur
A full day at leisure to enjoy the sights and shopping delights of Kuala Lumpur. [B]

Taman NegaraDay 4  Kuala Lumpur - Taman Negara
Today we travel to Taman Negara National Park by coach and boat. Thought to be one of the world’s oldest rainforests, Taman Negara’s history stretches back 130 million years. This evening we enjoy an interesting presentation on the national park, followed by an exciting night jungle walk. [B,L,D

Day 5  Taman Negara
This morning we enjoy a jungle trek and an amazing canopy walk high above the rainforest floor; here we get great views, giving us a different perspective of nature. You’ll love the variety of flora and fauna on display in the Malaysian jungle. This afternoon we take a boat tour of Lata Berkoh and have the chance to swim in the refreshing 
cascades. [B,L,D]

Day 6  Taman Negara - Cameron Highlands
This morning we travel by boat to Kuala Tembeling and then by coach up to the Cameron Highlands, the largest and most famous of Malaysia’s hill resorts. During colonial times, the cooler climate and spectacular mountain scenery made the Highlands a favourite summer retreat for the British. [B]

Day 7  Cameron Highlands
Today we explore the Highlands’ beautiful green hills. We visit a tea plantation, a butterfly farm and a local Orang Asli village where we learn about the culture and traditions of the local people. [B]

Georgetown PenangDay 8  Cameron Highlands - Penang
This morning we depart for Penang, the site of the oldest British settlement in Malaysia. Along the way we have a chance to stop and take some photos of the breathtaking Ubudiah Mosque and Royal Museum in Kuala Kangsar. Upon arrival in Penang we tour the island’s bustling capital, George Town, sister city of Adelaide in South Australia. The city has retained much of its colonial history. Highlights of our tour include Fort Cornwallis, Weld Quay, Khoo Kong Si, the Street of Harmony and Penang’s fantastic Museum and Art Gallery. [B]

Day 9  Penang
A full day at leisure to enjoy Penang’s beaches, hit the shops and markets or further explore this holiday island. [B]

Day 10  Penang - Langkawi
This morning we travel by ferry to the idyllic island resort of Langkawi which will be our home for the next three nights. Langkawi is brimming with culture, mysteries, legends and an abundance of natural scenery. It’s the perfect getaway for rest and 
relaxation.  [B,D]

Day 11  Langkawi
A great day as we enjoy a tour of Langkawi Island and learn about its history and culture. Highlights include the art village of Atma Alam, Mahsuri’s Mausoleum, Eagle Square and Kuah Town. [B]

LangkawiDay 12  Langkawi
Today is at leisure to relax and enjoy the resort atmosphere - laze by the pool, walk along the beach or catch up on some last-minute shopping. [B,D]

Day 13  Depart Langkawi
This morning is at leisure before we commence our journey home to Australia. [B]

Day 14  Arrive in Australia
