Mexico & Cuba - OLD Itinerary

Day 1  Australia to Mexico
Arrive in Mexico where you are welcomed and transferred to your hotel.

Day 2  Mexico City
This morning we tour Mexico City, one of only a few cities to have hosted both the Olympics and the soccer World Cup! [B,L,D]

Day 3  Mexico City
This morning we visit the archaeological site of Teotihuacan with its massive Temple of the Sun and the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, arguably the most important Christian site in Latin America. [B,L]

Day 4  Mexico City - Oaxaca
Today we leave Mexico City and travel to Oaxaca via the beautiful city of Puebla, famous for its Baroque churches and ceramics. [B,L]

Day 5  Oaxaca
We enjoy a half day touring the region surrounding Oaxaca, including Monte Alban. [B,L]

Day 6  Oaxaca - Tuxtla
This morning we fly to Tuxtla where we will be met and transferred to our hotel. [B,L]

Day 7  Tuxtla - San Cristóbal d’l Casas
Today we head into the Chiapas Mountains and the charming town of San Cristóbal de las Casas. We stop along the way to explore the Sumidero Canyon by boat. [B,L]

Day 8  San Cristóbal
An interesting morning as we visit several of the small indigenous communities surrounding San Cristóbal.  We also visit the colourful local markets. [BL]

Day 9  San Cristóbal - Palenque
Our journey continues through lush green valleys as we head back down to Palenque. On the way we visit the Agua Azul waterfalls. [B,L]

Day 10  Palenque - Campeche
Have your cameras ready as we visit the archaeological site of Palenque, which boasts several magnificent pyramids. This afternoon we continue to Campeche.  [B]

Day 11  Campeche - Merida
An incredible day as we visit the site of Uxmal, the most important of all Mayan sites. After lunch we continue to Merida for a tour of the city. [B,L]

Day 12  Merida – Playa del Carmen
Another amazing day of antiquities as we visit Chichen Itza, home to the huge Pyramid of Kukulkan. Later we arrive in the resort of Playa del Carmen. [B,L]

Day 13  Playa del Carmen
Full day at leisure to relax or explore. [B,D]

Day 14  Playa del Carmen - Havana
Morning is at leisure before flying to Havana, where we are met and transferred to our hotel. [B]

Day 15  Havana - Santiago de Cuba
We tour Havana this morning, first by horse-drawn carriage and later we return tot he hotel in classic American cars! This afternoon we fly to Santiago de Cuba which is where Castro and Che Guevara started their revolution. [B,L]

Day 16  Santiago de Cuba
Today we tour the city including the historic Casa de Velazquez and the Island of Granma which is located in the middle of the bay. [B,L]

Day 17  Santiago de Cuba - Baracoa
A day of stunning coastal scenery as we travel via Gran Piedra to Baracoa. Along the way we pass the infamous Guantanamo Bay. [B]

Day 18  Baracoa
Today we explore beautiful Baracoa which is where Columbus first set foot on Cuban soil.  We also enjoy an excursion to Yumuri Indian Village.  [B,L]

Day 19  Baracoa - Camaguey
We travel to Camaguey via the revolutionary city of Bayamo. [B]

Day 20  Camaguey - Trinidad
We tour the narrow streets of Camaguey by rickshaw before travelling to Trinidad. [B]

Day 21  Trinidad-Cienfuegos
Enjoy a wonderful tour of historic Trinidad. [B,L]

Day 22  Cienfuegos
A really fun day as we explore the Escambararaye mountains. [B,L]

Day 23  Cienfuegos - Havana
Today we visit the Che Guevara Mausoleum before going on to Havana. [B]

Day 24  Havana
Today we visit the region of Pinar del Rio, centre of the famous cigar industry. [B,L]

Day 25  Havana
Enjoy a day at leisure before tonight's farewell dinner. [B,D]

Day 26  Havana - Mexico
We fly to Mexico City where we will be met and transferred to our hotel.  The rest of the day is at leisure [B]

Day 27  Depart Mexico
Enjoy a morning at leisure before we fly to Los Angeles to board our flight home to Australia. [B]

Day 28  In transit

Day 29  Arrive in Australia
