Malaysia - Sandakan Safari Itinerary

 Day 1  Sandakan
Upon arrival at Sandakan airport you are met and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure to relax and enjoy the beautiful sorroundings.

Day 2  Selingan Island
This morning transfer to the jetty where you will embark on a boat ride to Selingan Island. After checking into your chalet at Selingan Island Resort you enjoy lunch, and then some leisure time to explore the island, swim or snorkel. In the evening you will proceed with the park ranger to watch the Green Turtle lay eggs on the beach, the transplanting of eggs to the hatchery and the release of baby turtles into the sea. [B,L,D]

Day 3  Sepilok Orang Utan Centre - Abai Jungle
This morning we depart the island for Sandakan and proceed to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre where we visit the free roaming area and feeding platform to witness feeding time. After leaving Sepilok, you will enjoy a boat cruise to the lower Kinabatangan Sanctuary. The journey allows you to discover the magnificent scenery of the Mangrove Forest from the waters of Sulu Sea at Sandakan Town. The afternoon is free to relax and enjoy the nature board walk. After dinner your night cruise leads you to admire the fireflies as they blink in mangrove trees along the river bank, almost like lights on a Christmas tree. Your accommodation tonight is at Abai Jungle Lodge, set within the beautiful rainforest! [B,L,D]

Day 4  Abain Jungle - Sakau
Wake up to the calls of nature and take an early morning river trip to the Ox Bow Lake to observe wildlife and experience the uniqueness of the lake. You then return to the lodge for breakfast with the option to join the tree planting project with the locals. After lunch, you cruise to Sakau village where we check in to Sakau Lodge and go in search of primates especially the Endemic Proboscis Monkeys. In the late afternoon, you enjoy a river trip to Menanggul River. Tonight you stay at Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge where you can take in the ambience of the river and rainforest. [B,L,D]

Day 5  Depart Sandakan
This morning you will wake to the calls of gibbons and hornbills. You travel to the famous Gomantong Birdnest Caves, home to millions of bats and swiftlets. You then continue to Sandakan en route stopping at the puh Jih Syh Chinese Buddhist Temple which offers a panoramic view of Sandakan Bay. You will then be transferred to the airport for your onwards flight. [B]
