India - Khajuraho & Varanasi Itinerary
Day 1 Agra-Khajuraho
This morning set off from Agra by train to Jhansi and continue by road to Khajuraho via the impressive palaces and temples of Orchha. Orchha was founded in the 16th century by the Bundela Rajput chieftain Rudra Pratap. Once the capital city of Bundela, Orchha is now just a village, set amongst a complex of well preserved palaces and temples.
Day 2 Khajuraho
A relaxed morning at leisure followed by an afternoon visit to Khajuraho's Chandella Dynasty temples. The Chandella temples were constructed between 950 to 1050 AD, during the reign of the Chandel empire. Originally 85 temples were built of which only 22 still exist today. Admire the wonderful architecture as well as the sensuous and erotic sculptures and carvings for which they are famous. [B]
Day 3 Khajuraho-Varanasi
Today fly east to the holy city of Varanasi, the spiritual home of Hinduism. On arrival you are met and welcomed before being transferred to your hotel. This evening, you will visit the ghats of Ganges to observe the Aarti prayer ceremony where thousands of lamps are lit to worship God. [B]
Day 4 Varanasi
Enjoy an early boat ride on the Ganges as the sun rises and the faithful come to perform their purification rituals believed to absolve them of thier sins. Continue with a morning tour visiting Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Bharat Mata Mandir and the new Vishwanath Temple. The afternoon is at leisure. [B]
Day 5 Varanasi-Delhi
Transfer to the airport for connecting flight to Delhi airport. [B]
