Vietnam Discovery - OLD Itinerary

Day 1  Depart Australia
Your tour begins today! Depending on your Australian departure city, it will either be a night in Asia before connecting to Saigon or an overnight flight to Saigon.

Day 2  Arrive in Saigon
Upon arrival in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) we are transferred to our hotel. Here the day is yours to relax, unwind and re-energise before the real fun begins! 

Cu Chi TunnelsDay 3  Saigon
This morning we visit the Cu Chi Tunnel complex. The afternoon is at leisure before our welcome dinner tonight on board the Bonsai River Cruise.  [B,D]

Day 4   Saigon - Mekong Delta
This morning we enjoy a tour of bustling Saigon, including its many French-style colonial buildings, the moving War Remnants Museum and the busy markets of Ben Thanh. This afternoon we continue on to the Mekong Delta. [B]

Day 5  Mekong Delta - Saigon
We explore the Delta by boat, visiting the lively Cai Rang Floating Market and the small town of Can Tho. This afternoon we return to Saigon. [B]

Day 6  Saigon - Dalat
From Saigon we take a morning flight to the mountain retreat of Dalat, used by the French during colonial times as a summer retreat to beat the heat. Our afternoon tour includes the historic French District and the beautiful flower garden. [B]

Day 7  Dalat - Nha Trang
Today we enjoy a scenic drive through the mountains towards the beach resort town of Nha Trang. [B]

Nha TrangDay 8  Nha Trang
Full day at leisure to enjoy the beautiful beaches and relaxed seaside atmosphere of Nha Trang. [B]

Day 9  Nha Trang - Hoi An
We take a morning flight from Nha Trang to Danang. Upon arrival we travel over the spectacular Marble Mountains to the World Heritage-listed town of Hoi An. [B]

Day 10  Hoi An
Hoi An has hardly changed in centuries, and the centre is still car-free, so wear comfy shoes today as our tour is on foot. Later you can rest your feet during a relaxing boat trip on the Thu Bon River. [B]

Day 11  Hoi An - Hue
Today we pass through the Truong Son Mountain Range via the spectacular Hai Van Pass. We then travel to the town of Hue, which served as Vietnam's capital under the emperors of the Nguyen Dynasty from 1802 to 1945. The city’s regal past can still be seen inside the walls of the Citadel and the Imperial City. Both were heavily damaged during the Tet Offensive of 1968 when the Communists took the City from the South and held it for 3 weeks; now, thanks to UNESCO funding, much of the City is being faithfully restored to its former glory. (The Imperial City, created in the 19th century, was modelled on the Forbidden City in Beijing and includes many palaces and temples. Our city tour includes some of the palaces of the old Imperial City). [B]

Day 12  Hue
This morning we travel by boat on the Perfume River to the Thien Mu Pagoda which was a hotbed of protests during the early 1960s. We also visit the imperial tombs of Tu Duc and Khai Dinh. [B]

Day 13  Hue - Hanoi
Today we fly to Hanoi, the stately capital of Vietnam. Home to more than 6 million people, it’s the second-largest city in Vietnam and has a real buzz about it. [B]

One Pillar PagodaDay 14  Hanoi
A great day as we explore Hanoi, including a fun tour of the old town by cyclo. Other interesting places we explore include the History Museum, One Pillar Pagoda, Hoan Kiem Lake and the famous St Joseph’s Cathedral. [B]

Day 15  Hanoi - Halong Bay
This morning we travel to the water wonderland of Halong Bay. We board a Huong Hai junk where we are welcomed with lunch on board, then we cruise through Halong Bay, stopping to visit Dinh Huong, Ga Choi Island and Sung Sot Cave. We overnight on the junk. [B,L,D]

Day 16  Halong Bay - Hanoi
This morning enjoy an early breakfast and relax as we continue to cruise around this amazing setting with its limestone outcrops and numerous islands. In the afternoon we travel back to Hanoi. [B,L]

Day 17  Hanoi
A full day at leisure to relax or do some last- minute shopping. Tonight we savour a delightful farewell dinner. [B,D]

Day 18  Depart Hanoi
This morning is at leisure before we commence our journey home. [B]
