China - Yangtze River Cruise Itinerary

Day 1 Chongqing - Embarkation
On arrival in Chongqing, you are transferred to your cruise ship.

Day 2 Yangtze Cruising
The ship departs Chongqing at 8am. Your shore excursion today is to Fengdu Ghost City, home to spellbinding temples dedicated to underworld demons and gods, the inhabitants of ancient Chinese ghost culture. [B,L,D]

Day 3 Yangtze Cruising
Today you continue cruising along the mighty Yangtze River. Sights include the other busy water traffic as well as the Three Gorges with their sheer cliffs rising up from the river. Enjoy a shore excursion to the Shennong Stream, a small tributary of the Yangtze, famous for its picturesque scenery. See deep ravines, steep ridges and peaks, thick vegetation and wildflowers. Day 4 Yangtze Cruising
This morning relax as you continue to cruise to the town of Yichang. Here you will disembark and visit the extraordinary Three Gorges Dam site. Construction of the controversial Three Gorges Dam began in 1994 and it is now the largest hydroelectric dam in the world. When completed in 2009, the dam wall will be 2,335 metres long, 18 metres wide, and its bottom will be 130 metres wide. Eventually the water will rise to 135 metres above sea level and it is hoped that the dam will stop the flooding of the lower Yangtze. After the tour you will be transferred to the airport for your onward flights. [B]
