This tour takes you from the desert of the Kalahari to the floodplains and islands of the Okavango Delta, discover some of Africa’s most diverse ecosytems in the heart of Botswana. Meet the famous Kalahari Bushmen, search for lions and camp out in luxury under the stars.

HUNTERS AND GATHERERS

Immerse yourself in the Kalahari Desert, tracking local wildlife with the Bushmen, learning about some of the first inhabitants of southern Africa – the San people, and discovering traditional ways of making hunting weapons and tools.

WATER WILDERNESS

Make your way into the heart of the Okavango, the world’s largest inland delta and perhaps the most unique ecosystem in Africa! From your luxury campsite with its amazing views over the Okavango Delta, you’ll get to discover this regions spectacular natural beauty. Explore its many flood plains and islands from the tranquillity of a traditional Mokoro canoe along the channels. Then, go in search of giraffe, lion, cheetah and impala on safari.

Day 1. Maun - Central Kalahari

Welcome to Botswana! From Maun you will board your flight into the central Kalahari Desert. The Kalahari Desert is actually a semi-desert supporting many species of wildlife and migratory birds. On arrival you will be briefed about all the activities available to you during your stay. Enjoy dinner at your lodge, gazing across the African night sky. [D]

Day 2. Central Kalahari

Today you’ll explore the Kalahari Desert. Head out on an early-morning game drive in search of the local wildlife. Learn about the San people, some of the first inhabitants of southern Africa, and interact with a group of Kalahari Bushmen on a guided walk. They will also show you how they traditionally made bows, arrows and other tools. Return to the lodge for another beautiful dinner. [B,L,D]

Day 3. Central Kalahari - Okavango Delta

After another game drive this morning, you will check out and transfer to the airport for a light aircraft flight into the incredible Okavango Delta. The Okavango is the world’s largest inland delta and one of nature’s true spectacles. On arrival you will be transferred to your luxury tented campsite in time for lunch. Discover some of the delta’s amazing wildlife on a game drive this afternoon. Tonight enjoy dinner back at the campsite with an amazing view over the delta. [B,L,D]

Day 4. Okavango Delta

Enjoy a traditional mokoro canoe excursion along the channels of the delta this morning. With no engine there’s no noise to scare away the wildlife. Return to the lodge for breakfast and some time at leisure before an afternoon game drive. Keep an eye out for giraffe, lion, cheetah and impala. [B,L,D]

Day 5. Okavango Delta

Spend the day discovering more of the magnificent delta on early-morning and afternoon game drives, with time to relax and enjoy the luxury campsite in-between. [B,L,D]

Day 6. Okavango Delta - Kasane

Enjoy breakfast at the campsite after an early-morning game drive. You will then be transferred to the airstrip for your light aircraft flight to Kasane and your onward journey. [B]

At Bunnik Tours we don’t put specific age limits on our tours, but we also recognise some travellers may find our itineraries challenging.
We have a duty of care to all tour participants and the tour guides, so we do impose a firm policy on the level of fitness required by all our clients to attempt to ensure your safety and the safety of other travellers on our tours.
At Bunnik Tours our goal is for all our travellers to enjoy their tour, not struggle through it! Which is why we want to work with you to ensure you are on the best possible trip for your fitness level. We do reserve the right to refuse bookings if we feel that the requirements of the tour are too demanding.
Bunnik Tours are for independently minded travellers with good levels of mobility.

Our tours include:
1. Generous amounts of free time
2. Lots of walking
3. Local and authentic experiences including various modes of transport and accommodation

In some regions travellers can also expect:
1. Long days of travelling, at times on dirt and gravel roads in Africa
2. Extended periods at high altitude (3,000-4,000 metres) in Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Ethiopia
3. Extended periods of walking/hiking through humid forest areas in Rwanda
4. Limited medical facilities in remote areas

Bunnik Tours travellers are required to at least:
1. Be able to walk 2-3 hours on uneven surfaces
2. Walk up multiple flights of stairs and short, steep hills
3. Stand for 20 minutes without needing to sit down, often in hot/humid climates
4. Carry their own luggage
5. Get on and off various modes of transport without assistance, including small boats

Deception Valley Lodge, Maun-Kalahari

Deception Valley Lodge is an oasis in Botswana's Kalahari Desert. Chalets consist of luxury rooms with en-suite Victorian style bathrooms, an outside shower and a private spacious lounge. After a night-cap, turn in for a peaceful sleep nestled among the comfortable and safe surroundings of the lodge.

Kadizora Camp is set beneath a majestic stand of trees and along a peninsula, commanding uninterrupted panoramic vistas of the delta and affords each luxury tent absolute privacy.
