Amazing Animal Encounters

No tour of Africa would be complete without a visit to its spectacular national parks. We spend time at Mthetomusha Private Game Reserve on the border of Great Kruger National Park, and enjoy our first game drive to spot the ‘Big 5’ in their natural habitat. In Botswana, we enjoy two nights in an eco-luxury tented campsite within Moremi Game Reserve. Here we explore the Okavango Delta and it's stunning ecosystem. Other highlights include brilliant boat safaris and game drives within Chobe National Park. Keep your eyes peeled for some of Africa’s finest wildlife, including hippos, elephants, lions, buffalo and more!

Witness the mighty Victoria Falls, a truly beautiful and spectacular sight. They form the natural border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, and we promise you will not be disappointed! We head to Kenya, setting for the famous novels “Out of Africa” and “Born Free”. Here you'll track game in Samburu National Reserve, see majestic Mt Kenya, stunning birdlife at Lake Nakuru and cross the vast savannahs of the Maasai Mara.

Day 1. Depart Australia

‘Welkom’ to Cape Town! Meet your tour guide and fellow travellers for a welcome drink and group dinner this evening. [B]

Day 3. Cape Town

We discover this cosmopolitan city on a sightseeing tour this morning. Highlights include the iconic Table Mountain (weather permitting) and the spectacular landscapes of the Cape Peninsula, including Boulders Beach and Cape Point. [B,D]

Day 4. Cape Town - Stellenbosch 

We'll travel to Stellenbosch this morning, South Africa's oldest town.

Day 5. Stellenbosch - Mthethomusha Game Reserve

Our day begins with a flight to the Kruger region, where we'll continue to Mthethomusha Private Game Reserve. This afternoon we head out on our first game drive!  [B,L,D]

Day 6. Mthethomusha Game Reserve 

Today is devoted to witnessing the abundant wildlife found in this beautiful park, on morning and afternoon game drives.  [B,L,D]

Day 7. Mthethomusha Game Reserve - Okavango Delta (Moremi)

We'll leave South Africa and fly to Maun, gateway to the incredible Okavango Delta. From here we’ll enjoy a scenic flight in a light plane over the beautiful delta into Moremi Game Reserve. This afternoon we'll head out on an exciting game drive. [B,D]

Day 8. Okavango Delta

Special Experience: This morning we cruise along the delta in a mokoro canoe. Admire the scenery and birdlife as one of the world's richest ecosystems is bathed in morning light. 

We'll explore more of this magnificent delta on another game safari.  [B,L,D]

Day 9. Okavango Delta - Chobe National Park

After an early morning searching for game, we travel to the airstrip for our flight to Kasane. From here, we'll make our way into famous Chobe National Park. This afternoon we'll enjoy a boat safari along the Chobe River, where we'll observe life along the riverbanks.  [B,L,D]

Day 10. Chobe National Park

We explore Chobe National Park today on morning and afternoon game drives. The park is known for having one of the largest populations of elephants in Africa. [B,L,D]

Day 11. Chobe National Park - Victoria Falls

We cross the border and travel to Victoria Falls, one of the world’s largest waterfalls, forming part of the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. Tonight we’ll relax on a sunset cruise along the Zambezi River. [B]

Day 12. Victoria Falls 

A morning guided walk takes us through lush rainforest to the spectacular falls. Explore the trails and take in the amazing views! This evening we'll enjoy a boma dinner, with traditional dancing and drumming. [B,D]

Day 13. Victoria Falls - Nairobi

Special Experience: Discover the history of the Victoria Falls Bridge during an informative and exciting bridge walk. 

This afternoon we transfer to the airport for our flight to Kenya. [B]

Day 14. Nairobi 

Today we’ll visit the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, which rescues and rehabilitates elephants and rhinos orphaned by ivory and horn poachers. Then get up close and personal with the giraffes at the Giraffe Centre. Later we enjoy lunch at the Karen Blixen Coffee Garden and visit the adjoining Museum. We then visit the Kazuri Beads Factory. Started by two single women, it now produces ethical handicrafts and provides sustainable employment to more than 340 local women. [B,L]

Day 15. Nairobi - Samburu National Reserve

Escaping the city, we travel north and cross the equator before arriving in Samburu National Reserve. After lunch we’ll head out on our first game drive! [B,L,D]

Day 16. Samburu National Reserve

Keep an eye out for Samburu’s diverse range of wildlife on morning and afternoon game drives today. [B,L,D]

Day 17. Samburu National Reserve - Mt Kenya National Park

Today we travel to Mount Kenya, Kenya’s highest mountain. On our way we stop at a Samburu village and school, as well as the Nanyuki Spinners and Weavers, a place where women are trained in the craft of spinning and weaving, empowering them to earn a sustainable living. 

Walking Man

On arrival in Mt Kenya we’ll explore the forest on foot with a ranger. [B,L,D]

Day 18. Mt Kenya National Park - Lake Nakuru National Park

We'll visit Thomson's Falls en route to Lake Nakuru. At 74 metres high, this scenic waterfall is located on the Ewaso Ng'iro River and upstream, one of the highest hippo pools in Kenya can be found. In the afternoon, we'll take a spectacular game drive through Lake Nakuru National Park. [B,L,D]

Day 19. Lake Nakuru National Park - Lake Naivasha

We’ll participate in a tree-planting ceremony at our lodge this morning before we travel to Lake Naivasha, the home of the late Joy Adamson, author of 'Born Free'.

Walking Man

After lunch, we drive to Hell's Gate National Park where we go for a hike, admiring the spectacular scenery of towering cliffs, extinct volcanoes and deep gorges.

We then return to the rich heritage and idyllic scenery of Lake Naivasha, the perfect place to enjoy afternoon tea and visit the Adamson house containing memorabilia from the 'Born Free' film. [B,L,D]

Please Note: Due to recent flash flooding, Hell’s Gate National Park has been closed until further notice. A boat trip on Lake Naivasha will be enjoyed in its place.

Day 20. Lake Naivasha - Maasai Mara

We travel to the famous Maasai Mara.

At Bunnik Tours we don’t put specific age limits on our tours, but we also recognise some travellers may find our itineraries challenging.
We have a duty of care to all tour participants and the tour guides, so we do impose a firm policy on the level of fitness required by all our clients to attempt to ensure your safety and the safety of other travellers on our tours.
Our goal is for all our travellers to enjoy their tour, not struggle through it! Which is why we want to work with you to ensure you are on the best possible trip for your fitness level. We do reserve the right to refuse bookings if we feel that the requirements of the tour are too demanding.
Bunnik Tours are for independently minded travellers with good levels of mobility.

Our tours include:

3. Local and authentic experiences including various modes of transport and accommodation

In some regions travellers can also expect:
1. Long days of travelling, at times on dirt and gravel roads in Africa
2. Extended periods at high altitude (3,000-4,000 metres) in Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Ethiopia
3. Extended periods of walking/hiking through humid forest areas in Rwanda
4. Limited medical facilities in remote areas

Bunnik Tours travellers are required to at least:
1. Be able to walk 2-3 hours on uneven surfaces without the use of any walking aid, on any given day
2. Walk up multiple flights of stairs and short, steep hills
3. Stand for 20 minutes without needing to sit down, often in hot/humid climates
4. Carry their own luggage
5. Get on and off various modes of transport without assistance, including small boats

After take-off you will fly out over the Victoria Falls where your pilot will fly left- and right-hand circuits over the falls in both directions. Continuing the flight downstream over the Batoka Gorge, experience the natural beauty of this awe-inspiring dramatic feature, following the mighty Zambezi as it carves its way between steep cliffs. Includes return transfers from your Victoria Falls hotel. Excludes Park Fees and Government Fees of $15pp US, which are to be paid locally to the operator.

Kenya

Maasai Mara Balloon Safari – 3hrs (2.5hrs approx. based on transfer to/from) - $450pp US
This morning, enjoy an amazing experience as you take a balloon ride over the Maasai Mara. This is probably one of the most scenic views you will ever experience as you depart at dawn and float, suspended in a basket beneath a canopy while viewing the sights of the mighty Maasai Mara and its wildlife. On landing, you’ll be provided with a delicious bubbly-style bush breakfast.
