Amazing Animal Encounters

No tour of Africa would be complete without a visit to its spectacular National Parks. We spend time at Mthetomusha Private Game Reserve on the border of Great Kruger National Park, and enjoy our first game drive to spot the ‘Big 5’ in their natural habitat. In Botswana, we enjoy two nights in an eco-luxury tented campsite within Moremi Game Reserve. Here we explore the Okavango delta and it's stunning ecosystem. Other highlights include brilliant boat safaris and game drives within Chobe National Park. Keep your eyes peeled for some of Africa’s finest wildlife, including hippos, elephants, lions, buffalo and more!

Witness the mighty Victoria Falls, a truly beautiful and spectacular sight. They form the natural border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, and we promise you will not be disappointed! We head to Kenya, setting for the famous novels “Out of Africa” and “Born Free”. Here you'll track game in Samburu National Reserve, see majestic Mt Kenya, stunning birdlife at Lake Nakuru and cross the vast savannahs of the Maasai Mara.

Day 3. Cape Town

We discover this cosmopolitan city on a sightseeing tour this morning. Highlights include the South African Museum and iconic Table Mountain (weather permitting).

Day 4. Cape Town - Mthethomusha Game Reserve

This morning we fly to the Kruger region and continue to Mthethomusha Private Game Reserve, on the border of Greater Kruger National Park. This afternoon we’ll head out on our first game drive! [B,D]

Day 5. Mthethomusha Game Reserve

Our day is devoted to viewing the abundant wildlife found in this beautiful park, on morning and afternoon game drives. [B,L,D]

Day 6. Mthethomusha Game Reserve - Okavango Delta

We leave South Africa and fly to Maun, gateway to the incredible Okavango Delta. From here we’ll enjoy a scenic flight in a light plane over the beautiful delta into Moremi Game Reserve. This afternoon we search for game before admiring the sunset from a cruise on Boro River. [B,D]

Day 7. Okavango Delta (Moremi)

Special Experience: This morning we cruise along the delta in a traditional mokoro canoe, admiring the amazing birdlife and scenery of one of the richest ecosystems in the world as it is bathed in morning light.  [B,L,D]

Day 8. Okavango Delta - Chobe

After an early morning searching for game, we travel to the airstrip for our flight to Kasane. From here, we’ll make our way into famous Chobe National Park. This afternoon we take to the water for a boat safari as the sun sets. [B,D]

Day 9. Chobe National Park

We explore Chobe National Park today on morning and afternoon game drives. Known for having one of the largest populations of elephants in Africa, it’s also home to huge herds of buffaloes and zebra. Hopefully we’ll spot large prides of lions lazing the day away in the shade as well. [B,L,D]

Day 10. Chobe - Victoria Falls

We cross the border and travel to Victoria Falls, the world’s largest waterfall, forming part of the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. Tonight we’ll relax on a sunset cruise along the Zambezi River. [B]

Day 11. Victoria Falls

A morning guided walk takes us through lush rainforest to the spectacular falls. Explore the trails and take in the amazing view! [B,D]

Day 12. Victoria Falls - Johannesburg Airport

Enjoy the morning at leisure before our flight to Johannesburg this afternoon. [B]

Day 13. Johannesburg Airport - Nairobi

Today we take another flight, this time to Nairobi. [B]

Day 14. Nairobi 

Today we’ll visit the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, run by Dame Daphne Sheldrick, which rescues and rehabilitates elephants and rhinos orphaned by ivory and horn poachers. Then get up close and personal with the giraffes at the Giraffe Centre. Later we enjoy lunch at the Karen Blixen Coffee Garden and visit the adjoining Museum. We then visit the Kazuri Beads Factory. Started by two single women, it now produces ethical handicrafts and provides sustainable employment to more than 340 local women. [B,L]

Day 15. Nairobi - Samburu National Reserve

Escaping the city, we travel north and cross the equator before arriving in Samburu National Reserve. After lunch we’ll head out on our first game drive! [B,L,D]

Day 16. Samburu National Reserve

Keep an eye out for Samburu’s diverse range of wildlife on morning and afternoon game drives today. [B,L,D]

Day 17. Samburu National Reserve - Mt Kenya National Park

Today we travel to Mount Kenya, Kenya’s highest mountain. On our way we stop at the Nanyuki Spinners and Weavers, a place where women are trained in the craft of spinning and weaving, empowering them to earn a sustainable living.

On arrival in Mt Kenya we’ll explore the forest on foot with a ranger. [B,L,D]

 

Day 18. Mt Kenya National Park - Lake Nakuru National Park

A chance for us to spot the endangered rhino in beautiful Lake Nakuru National Park today on an afternoon game drive. [B,L,D]

Day 19. Lake Nakuru National Park - Lake Naivasha

We’ll participate in a tree-planting ceremony at our lodge this morning before we travel to Lake Naivasha, the home of the late Joy Adamson, author of “Born Free”.

Walking Man

After lunch, we drive to Hell's Gate National Park where we go for a walk, admiring the spectacular scenery of towering cliffs, extinct volcanoes and deep gorges.

We then return to the rich heritage and idyllic scenery of Lake Naivasha, the perfect place to enjoy afternoon tea and visit the Adamson house containing memorabilia from the “Born Free” film. [B,L,D]

Day 20. Lake Naivasha - Maasai Mara

We travel to the famous Maasai Mara and enjoy a game drive, spotting elephants, giraffes, zebra, gazelles and lions! [B,L,D]

Day 21. Maasai Mara

Our day in the Maasai Mara is devoted to discovering the incredible wildlife on morning and afternoon game drives. [B,L,D]

At Bunnik Tours we don’t put specific age limits on our tours, but we also recognise some travellers may find our itineraries challenging.
We have a duty of care to all tour participants and the tour guides, so we do impose a firm policy on the level of fitness required by all our clients to attempt to ensure your safety and the safety of other travellers on our tours.
At Bunnik Tours our goal is for all our travellers to enjoy their tour, not struggle through it! Which is why we want to work with you to ensure you are on the best possible trip for your fitness level. We do reserve the right to refuse bookings if we feel that the requirements of the tour are too demanding.
Bunnik Tours are for independently minded travellers with good levels of mobility.

Our tours include:

3. Local and authentic experiences including various modes of transport and accommodation

In some regions travellers can also expect:
1. Long days of travelling, at times on dirt and gravel roads in Africa
2. Extended periods at high altitude (3,000-4,000 metres) in Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Ethiopia
3. Extended periods of walking/hiking through humid forest areas in Rwanda, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Mexico and Costa Rica
4. Limited medical facilities in remote areas

Bunnik Tours travellers are required to at least:
1. Be able to walk 2-3 hours on uneven surfaces
2. Walk up multiple flights of stairs and short, steep hills
3. Stand for 20 minutes without needing to sit down, often in hot/humid climates
4. Carry their own luggage
5. Get on and off various modes of transport without assistance, including small boats

Samburu Game Lodge, Samburu

Samburu Game Lodge is set amongst 10 acres of pristine forest on the western bank of the Uaso Nyiro River within the Samburu National Reserve in northern Kenya. This is true wilderness and home to varieties of animals and birds rarely seen in other parts of the country. This morning enjoy an amazing experience as you take a balloon ride over the Maasai Mara. This is probably one of the most scenic views you will ever experience as you depart at dawn and float, suspended in a basket beneath a canopy while viewing the sights of the mighty Maasai Mara and its wildlife. On landing, you’ll be provided with a delicious bubbly-style bush breakfast.

  • Australian passport holders
    • A Botswana Tourism Development Levy of $30pp US is payable upon arrival. Payments are made at ports of entry through electronic payment machines that accept both US dollars and credit cards.
    • A Kenyan E-visa needs to be applied for prior to travel. This can be applied for here: http://evisa.go.ke/evisa.html 
    • A visa for Zimbabwe needs to be purchased upon arrival in Victoria Falls for approx $30pp US.
  • Non-Australian passport holders
    • Please check with your travel agent on visa requirements.
