Take an in depth journey through modern and ancient China. Explore the dynamic city of Beijing, see the famous Terracotta Warriors and Horses in Xi’an and get up close with the endangered giant pandas in Chengdu. Marvel at captivating scenery along the Yangtze River before concluding in Shanghai.

Forbidden City

Our tour starts in the bustling city of Beijing, where we'll visit Tianamen Square, the Forbidden City, enjoy some homemade dumplings and walk on the marvel that is the Great Wall of China. There is plenty of time for photos, so make sure your camera is fully charged!

From Ancient Dynasties to Giant Pandas

Another fantastic highlight of this China tour is a visit to the magnificent Terracotta Warriors and Horses, which are considered to be one of the greatest archaeological finds of the last century. We then enjoy an exciting day at the Chengdu Panda Base visiting the Giant Pandas, one of the world's rarest animals. Simply beautiful! Next we board our cruise ship and cruise on one of the world's greatest waterways - the Yangtze River, for 3 nights. 

Bustling Metropolises

Our China adventure ends in Shanghai, the New York of the Orient. We'll explore the city as well as the ancient water town of Zhujiajiao. Take a stroll along the Bund, explore the famous Nanjing Road and enjoy an incredible acrobatics show at the Shanghai Centre Theatre. 

Itinerary

Day 1. Depart Australia - Arrive Beijing

Ni hao! Welcome to China and the bustling capital city of Beijing, which is a fascinating  combination of rich history and new innovation. 

Day 2. Beijing

Special Experience: Stroll through Beijing’s hutongs (narrow streets and alleys) to explore a different side of the city. We’ll then visit a local home to try some homemade dumplings.

We'll then visit Tiananmen Square and explore the Forbidden City, which was the former Chinese Imperial Palace from the Ming dynasty to the Qing dynasty. Tonight we enjoy an authentic Peking Duck banquet for our group welcome dinner. [B,L,D]

Day 3. Beijing

A must-do for every visitor to China, today we’ll walk a small section of the Great Wall. Built more than 2,000 years ago, and spanning some 6,700 kilometres, the Great Wall is perhaps China’s most iconic attraction. We also visit Sacred Road; lined with huge stone statues, it was originally built to lead the way to the Changling Mausoleum. [B,L]

Day 4. Beijing

This morning we’ll discover the beautiful Temple of Heaven, where emperors performed rituals to ensure a good harvest in ancient times. Here we'll enjoy a tai chi lesson with a local master. Summer Palace is our next destination, where we'll take a dragonboat cruise on Kunming Lake. [B,L]

Day 5. Beijing - Xi’an

We travel to Xi’an by high-speed train. After our arrival this afternoon, we'll visit the well-preserved city walls and the Bell Tower. [B]

Day 6. Xi’an

We see the world-famous Terracotta Warriors and Horses this morning. Later we’ll explore the Muslim Market, passing through its narrow bazaar street filled with local delicacies, snacks and souvenirs. We'll also enjoy a Shadow Puppet show in Xi'an's Muslim Quarter - the famous Silk Road's starting point over 1,000 years ago. [B,L]

Day 7. Xi’an - Chengdu

Today we take the high-speed train to Chengdu, home of the giant pandas. [B,L]

Special Experience: Enjoy an afternoon cup of traditional Chinese tea and a game of Mahjong in the stunning Wangjiang Park. 

Day 8. Chengdu - Guilin

Special Experience: Get up close with the endangered giant pandas at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. 

We'll then take a visit to Wenshu Temple - Chengdu's oldest and largest Buddhist temple, before soaking up the charming atmosphere of Jinli Old Street. Later, we'll fly to beautiful Guilin. [B,L]

Day 9. Guilin - Yangshuo

A relaxing day cruising the Li River to Yangshuo. Enjoy the stunning views of the dramatic karst mountain landscape and watch colourful village life pass us by. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure for you to take in this beautiful setting at your own pace. Why not take a stroll down the famous West Street for dinner? [B,L]

Day 10. Yangshuo

We’ll take a cooking class this morning and learn some traditional techniques and recipes. [B,L]

Day 11. Yangshuo - Chongqing

This morning we'll transfer back to Guilin, where we will take the high-speed train to Chongqing.

Embark Cruise: Later today we'll board our three-night cruise along the Yangtze River, Asia's longest river. [B,D]

Please note: The Yangtze cruise featured within this tour is not privately chartered by Bunnik Tours and as such, you will be travelling with other passengers on board and during the shore excursions. 

Day 12. Yangtze River Cruise

After an early morning tai chi lesson, we can enjoy the stunning scenery as we cruise along the Yangtze. Later, we'll take a shore excursion to Shibaozhai, the ‘Precious Stone Fortress’, built during the Ming Dynasty. [B,L,D]

Day 13. Yangtze River Cruise

Spend the morning relaxing on board and admiring the view before an afternoon shore excursion to Shenny Stream, a smaller tributary of the Yangtze. [B,L,D]

Day 14. Yangtze River Cruise - Yichang

We visit the Three Gorges Dam, the largest hydroelectric dam in the world.

Day 15. Yichang - Shanghai

This morning we fly to Shanghai, China's largest city and a global financial hub, We'll begin exploring this afternoon, visiting the Yu Garden and the lively Yuyuan Market. [B,L]

Day 16. Shanghai

We'll spend half the day touring this magnificent city. Highlights include a visit to Shanghai Museum, a stroll along the Bund and the famous Nanjing Road. Tonight, we’ll enjoy an incredible acrobatics show at the Shanghai Centre Theatre. [B,L]

Day 17. Depart Shanghai

Special Experience: We explore Zhujiajiao, an ancient water town dating back some 700 years. Complete with traditional old bridges and small rivers, it’s set against a stunning backdrop of lakes and mountains.

Day 18. Depart Shanghai 

Today we'll transfer to the airport by maglev train and begin our journey home.

At Bunnik Tours we don’t put specific age limits on our tours, but we also recognise some travellers may find our itineraries challenging.
We have a duty of care to all tour participants and the tour guides, so we do impose a firm policy on the level of fitness required by all our clients to attempt to ensure your safety and the safety of other travellers on our tours.
Our goal is for all our travellers to enjoy their tour, not struggle through it! Which is why we want to work with you to ensure you are on the best possible trip for your fitness level. We do reserve the right to refuse bookings if we feel that the requirements of the tour are too demanding.
Bunnik Tours are for independently minded travellers with good levels of mobility.

Our tours include:

3. Local and authentic experiences including various modes of transport and accommodation

In some regions travellers can also expect:
1. Long days of travelling, at times on dirt and gravel roads in Africa
2. Extended periods at high altitude (3,000-4,000 metres) in Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Ethiopia
3. Extended periods of walking/hiking through humid forest areas in Rwanda
4. Limited medical facilities in remote areas

Bunnik Tours travellers are required to at least:
1. Be able to walk 2-3 hours on uneven surfaces without the use of any walking aid, on any given day
2. Walk up multiple flights of stairs and short, steep hills
3. Stand for 20 minutes without needing to sit down, often in hot/humid climates
4. Carry their own luggage
5. Get on and off various modes of transport without assistance, including small boats

Novotel Xinqiao, Beijing

Located just a 15-minute walk from Beijing Railway Station and a 10-minute walk from New World Shopping Mall, Novotel Xinqiao is in a great spot to explore this fascinating city. Top attractions in Beijing, such as the famous Wangfujing Street and the Tiananmen Square, can be easily reached. The rooms are elegantly decorated, air-conditioned rooms and feature light wood furnishings and satellite TV.

Dumpling or Jiaozi in Chinese is a traditional and popular food in China, especially in the north. At the dinner, nearly 20 varieties of dumplings that are steamed and stuffed with different delicious fillings such as vegetables, meats and seafood are served, these dumplings are not only tasty, but also characteristic with their colours and fragrance, style and culture meanings, all these make the dinner so unique that you should not miss it when travelling in Xi'an.

The Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD) was one of the most glorious dynasties in China's history, Xi'an was the capital during the Tang Dynasty and called as Chang'an. Tang Dynasty Show is a performance of Chang'an music and dances in Tang Dynasty style laid out according to various historical records and ancient arts and relics discovered in Xi'an, during the show, the musicians present the music with the Tang-Dynasty-style musical instruments and the dancers dance by wearing a Tang-Dynasty-style robe with long white silk sleeves, you will certainly enjoy this national art that reflects the glory and richness of the Tang Dynasty era.
