5 October 2019 will experience the Sun Festival in Abu Simbel

Sun Festival, Special Departure

Sun Festival

Our October 5, 2019 departure will experience this unique event. Ramses II built his temple at Abu Simbel so that the internal chamber would light up two times a year: once on the anniversary of his ascension to the throne (in February), and once on his birthday (in October). Every year on the Sun Festival, crowds gather before sunrise to observe the stream of light gradually sneaking through the stone and enlightening the statuettes of Ramses, Ra and Amun in the central chamber.

Immerse yourself in the incredible history of Turkey and Egypt. Discover the ancient civilisations and priceless treasures of bygone eras, indulge your senses in colourful market bazaars and explore the beautiful contrasting landscapes of these two unique countries.

Turkish delights

Our tour of Turkey starts in Istanbul, where we explore this fascinating city. We’ll visit the Topkapi Palace, the unique Blue Mosque, the famous Hippodrome, and the magnificent Basilica of St Sophia. Other highlights include Troy, where we'll visit the Trojan horse, and Ephesus, the largest ancient city ever uncovered.

Natural wonders

Our Turkish tour continues onto Pamukkale where, over the years, nature's hot springs have created many wonderful pools in the limestone cliff. We then travel on to Cappadocia to explore the surreal lunar-like landscape. It’s full of ‘fairy chimneys’, or strange rock formations that have formed naturally after hundreds of years of erosion.

Exciting Egypt

From here our tour continues to Egypt. Beginning our tour of Egypt in Cairo, we see the Great Pyramids of Giza and the iconic Sphinx. We’ll also take a Nile cruise, enjoying highlights along the way such as the temples of Karnak and Luxor, the Valley of the Kings, and Abu Simbel.
