Special_walking

Special ExperienceWe set off on our opulently appointed dahabiya, where we will spend the next week sailing in luxury.

We cross the Nile to the West Bank and Valley of the Kings and explore some of the tombs carved deep into the limestone rock. Each tomb is elaborately painted with rich colours and hieroglyphics, honouring the tomb's occupants. We next continue to the adjacent Valley of the Queens, the impressive necropolis for Egypt's ancient queens. We also visit the Temple of Medinet Habu, housing incredible reliefs of the defeat of the Sea People during Ramses III reign. [B,L,D]

Day 6. Nile Cruise

Today we’ll discover the fascinating Karnak Temple, dedicated to the Pharaoh Amun. Approximately 30 pharaohs contributed to the temple’s structure over time, which explains its monumental size! We’ll then visit Luxor Temple, once connected to Karnak Temple by a 3-kilometre-long Avenue of Sphinxes. Luxor Temple is also home to a 25-metre pink granite obelisk, which was part of a matching pair until the 1830s when one was given to France. It now stands in the centre of the Place de la Concorde in Paris. [B,L,D]

Day 7. Nile Cruise

Sit back and relax as our dahabiya sets sail for Edfu this morning, crossing the lock at Esna and continuing south. [B,L,D]

Special-Experience-Icon-30px

Special Experience: This morning we’ll transfer to the airport for our flight to visit the incredible twin temples of Abu Simbel. The temples were originally carved out of the mountainside during the reign of Pharaoh Ramses II in the 13th century BC, as a monument to himself and his queen, Nefertari.

Later we return to Cairo and enjoy a group farewell dinner. [B,D]

Day 13. Depart Cairo

Today we bid farewell to Egypt and begin our journey home. [B]

Day 14. Arrive Australia

Please note: Due to local laws and regulations, the only mode of transport available to visit the Temple of Horus in Edfu is by horse and carriage. You are welcome to explore Edfu independently or stay on board the cruise to enjoy the ship’s facilities if you would prefer.

Please note: The luxury Nile cruise is not a private charter, and is shared with non Bunnik passengers. It operates between the cities of Luxor and Aswan which are only 240km apart, meaning this could easily be covered in only 1 or 2 days without stops. However, this allows us to spend more time sightseeing along the way, allowing you to relax and see life along the river.

Please note: Due to limitations on the Nile dahabiya vessel, the bedding configuration of your cruise cabin cannot be guaranteed. Furthermore, our accommodation in Cairo and our dahabiya vessel are both 'dry' - meaning that alcohol is not served. Guests are welcome to bring their own alcohol into the hotel and on board the cruise.
