To see some of these highlights click the video link opposite.

Discover the Valley of the Kings

As part of our Egypt tour we also spend 3 nights on a luxury Nile Cruise. Travelling along Egypt’s famous Nile we stop to visit the Valley of the Kings and the beautiful Temple of Horus in Edfu, one of the best preserved temples in Egypt. As part of this Egypt tour we also visit the magnificent Abu Simbel – no photo can do this magnificent structure justice. Built from sandstone the temple stands the height of a five storey building.

Itinerary

Abbreviation: [B,L,D] Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 1. Depart Australia

Day 2. Arrive Cairo - Giza

Welcome to Cairo, the sprawling capital of Egypt and the largest city in Africa. This evening we’ll enjoy a group welcome dinner in Giza. [D]

Day 3. Giza

Our touring in Egypt begins at the oldest structures in existence, the amazing Great Pyramids of Giza, where construction began approximately 4,500 years ago. We’ll visit the nearby Great Sphinx, with the body of a lion and the head of a king, often referred to as the national symbol of Egypt. We’ll also discover the ancient capital of Memphis and the incredible Step Pyramid of Sakkara, believed to have been designed by the famous vizier of King Zoser, Imhotep. [B]

Day 4. Cairo Excursion

Today begins in the heart of lively Cairo with a visit to the world-famous Egyptian Museum, home to Tutankhamun’s priceless treasures and many other historic artefacts. There will also be time for an optional visit to the “Mummy Room”. We’ll then visit the 12th century Saladin Citadel of Cairo and the Mohammed Ali Mosque. Built in classic Turkish style, it resembles the great mosques of Istanbul. Our last stop is the 14th century Khan el-Khalili Bazaar, a major souk in Cairo’s Islamic District. Famous for its handmade crafts, it’s also the perfect place to enjoy a traditional Arabic coffee. There are no fixed prices here, so make sure you practice your haggling skills! [B]

Day 5. Giza - Aswan

Today we take a short flight to Aswan, gateway to the incredible history, temples and monuments of Upper Egypt. Here we’ll visit the High Dam, the magnificent Temple of Isis on Philae Island and the Unfinished Obelisk. This afternoon we’ll relax on a cruise along the Nile on board a traditional felucca sailboat, observing life along the banks of the river as our boat takes advantage of the gentle winds and currents. [B]

Day 6. Aswan - Abu Simbel - Nile Cruise

Special-Experience-Icon-30px

Special Experience: An early start this morning to cross the desert. Our destination is the incredible twin temples of Abu Simbel. The temples were originally carved out of the mountainside during the reign of Pharaoh Ramses II in the 13th century BC, as a monument to himself and his queen, Nefertari. [B,L,D]

Cruise-Icon-30px

Embark Cruise: Later this morning we’ll return to Aswan and board our Nile River cruise ship.

Enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure to discover Aswan further or relax on board.

Day 7. Nile Cruise

After breakfast we set sail for the Temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated to the gods Sobek and Haroeris. We’ll then cruise onward to Edfu where we’ll visit the magnificent Temple of Horus, dedicated to the Falcon God. This beautiful ancient temple is one of the best-preserved in Egypt and the second-largest after Karnak Temple. Continuing our journey, we cross the lock at Esna and sail on towards Luxor. Tonight we’ll experience a traditional galabeya party on board. [B,L,D]

Please note: Due to local laws and regulations, the only mode of transport available to visit the Temple of Horus in Edfu is by horse and carriage. Unfortunately, some neglectful owners cruelly mistreat their animals. While our guides always endeavour to arrange healthy, well-treated horses with responsible owners for our transport in Edfu, ultimately it is your decision if you wish to partake in the included sightseeing. If you do not wish to participate, you are welcome to explore Edfu independently, or stay on board the cruise to enjoy the ship’s facilities.

Day 8. Nile Cruise

We’ll arrive in Luxor after breakfast and explore the fascinating Karnak Temple, dedicated to the Pharaoh Amun. Approximately 30 pharaohs contributed to the temple’s structure over time, which explains its monumental size! We’ll then visit Luxor Temple, once connected to Karnak Temple by a 3-kilometre-long Avenue of Sphinxes. Luxor Temple is also home to a 25-metre pink granite obelisk, which was part of a matching pair until the 1830s when one was given to France. It now stands in
the centre of the Place de la Concorde in Paris. [B,L,D]

Day 9. Nile Cruise - Luxor

Cruise-Icon-30px

Disembark Cruise: We disembark the cruise after breakfast and set off to explore the West Bank - the world’s largest open-air museum!

Special-Experience-Icon-30px

Special Experience: Our first stop is the Valley of the Kings. Carved deep into the limestone rock, each tomb has a similar pattern of three corridors, an antechamber and a sarcophagus chamber. We’ll be able to descend into some of the tombs to see examples of the elaborate and well-preserved hieroglyphic paintings.

Our next destination is the Temple of Hatshepsut. Regarded by Egyptologists as one of the most successful pharaohs, Queen Hatshepsut was one of only a few women to be given the title of pharaoh. We’ll then visit the Colossi of Memnon. [B]

Day 10. Luxor - Cairo

The morning is at leisure for you to explore Luxor or simply relax before our flight back to Cairo. This evening we’ll enjoy a group farewell dinner. [B,D]

Day 11. Depart Cairo

Today we bid farewell to Egypt and begin our journey home. [B]

Reviews for Highlights of Egypt

This tour has a rating of 5 stars based on 12 reviews.

Here's what others have had to say about this tour.

Highlights of Egypt All of it was magical, a dream come true. 5
Cairo traffic was indeed something to experience, the Nile cruise was a very welcome time to relax a little. Favourite place was Luxor and the Valley of the Kings. Dianne Godwin - November 2016
Highlights of Egypt Loved everything, especially our delightful guide Mohamed Shehta 5
When I tell people I have just visited Egypt, their next question is "Did you feel Safe?" I have no hesitation in telling them that I felt totally safe all the time I was there. It is great to be able to encourage others to visit Egypt - a magnificent country with a "wow" around every corner. Lyn Peterson - October 2016
Highlights of Egypt The most culturally different place I've ever been 5
Seeing things we've studied at school and seen in documentaries for ever, and there we were, standing looking at them for real. Pyramids, Sphinx, Abu Simbel, Tutankhamen's golden mask, desert, step pyramid. In the truest sense of the word - awesome!! Jennifer Tidey - August 2016
Highlights of Egypt Quality accommodation, transfers and Guides throughout the Tour 5
It was great to actually see and feel the amazing world wonders that I have read so much about over the past 50 years. The temples at Abu Simbel were absolutely amazing and we thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our cruise down the Nile on the Movenpick Lily cruise vessel. Graeme Ralph - May 2016
Highlights of Egypt The bulk of my vocabulary started to comprise words starting with "A" -Awesome, Amazing and Astounding. 5
Having only travelled with family and friends, it was with a little trepidation that I booked the trip as a single traveller. All aspects of the airport meets and transfers were superb - the only way to travel to a foreign land, and the hotels were excellent. Egypt was a country I had wanted to see since studying high school ancient history - some 45 years ago!! After reading the itinerary, I knew this was the trip for me. While everyone goes to see The Pyramids ( and this had been at the top of my list ), I didn't want to leave Luxor and its temples. The visit to the Nubian Village was also a highlight - it was like going back in time - along with climbing through the tombs in the Valley of the Kings. The bulk of my vocabulary started to comprise words starting with "A" -Awesome, Amazing and Astounding. Our experience was enriched by the passion of our guides, especially Ibrahim Ali Selim. Our knowledge of the history increased exponentially through his guidance - we had to keep reminding ourselves that 1. we were in Egypt (and in Africa) which to us was some far away place at the end of the caravan route; 2. we were actually sailing on the Nile; 3. we were walking in the footsteps of the Pharaohs and Alexander the Great and the archeologists of the 1800's - layers of history unfolded before us. I arrived home completely spent, but knowing I had completely enjoyed the trip - everything was taken care of for us - all we had to do was enjoy the experience. I have made lifelong friends from my fellow travellers and we are even thinking about our next trip. Well done Bunniks and thank you. Karen Gibson - April 2016
Highlights of Egypt Great accommodation, guides and sights in a magical country. 5
Very knowledgeable guides who shared their information in an entertaining manner. Luxury accommodation with amazing views. The cruise down the Nile was very special. Each temple was different. Penny Trumble - March 2015
Highlights of Egypt I realised my childhood dream of seeing the pyramids 4
There were just so many interesting aspects of the tour and learning through the hieroglyphics about society then. Overall it way surpassed what I had imagined. Sandy Bennett - March 2015
Highlights of Egypt Eman was the best guide I have ever had! 5
Eman was the best guide I have ever had. Her knowledge of Egypt is outstanding. All the sights were visited, paying special attention to the arrival times so we got the most from the sights. I loved that I was learning so much more than reading books! Nicolette Pratt - January 2015
Highlights of Egypt Brilliant 5
Our tour of Egypt finished on the 18th of December. Egypt is an amazing place, so many highlights to this tour, the temples, pyramids, cruising the Nile, the people. We had great Egyptologist's with exceptional local knowledge, & Sherif out tour leader made life easy for us from the moment we entered the airport.Thank you very much Bunnik Tours for having such a wonderful tour, I would have no hesitation traveling with you company again. Steven Smith - December 2014
Highlights of Egypt Thanks! 5
We have travelled extensively through Europe by ourselves but felt Egypt was a little to difficult to manage independently. It was the best decision we could have made as looking back we could not have done it without Bunniks Karen & Sia McQuillan - November 2012
Highlights of Egypt We had a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday 5
Well organized, we thoroughly enjoyed the whole Egyptian experience. John Ridley - Sep 2012
Highlights of Egypt Everything I have ever dreamed of and more. I am so fulfilled-Just amazing! 4
Hotels in Egypt were all fabulous with the food, pools and views way beyond wildest dreams... Can't describe how wonderful it all was. Everything I have ever dreamed of and more. I am so fulfilled!Wadi Rum in Jordan was an unexpected surprise. Who can forget the magical landscape and experience of riding around in a jeep driven by a bedouin? The donkey ride was eventful in Petra. Just amazing! Carolyn Streckbein - April 2013
