Explore the stunning European Alps on an adventure across Germany, Austria and Switzerland, taking in the leafy forests of Lake Bled and the beautiful Italian Dolomites. Fairy Tale Scenery

Our tour starts in Munich, home to the famous Oktoberfest where we enjoy a walking tour of it's iconic buildings and famous food markets. We then head to the stunning Neuschwanstein Castle with its stunning forest backdrop that was the inspiration for Walt Disney's Magic Kingdom.

Sounds of Music

As we travel into Austria we stop at the infamous Eagle’s Nest, an architectural masterpiece before seeing the sights made famous by "The Sound of Music". In Vienna, stroll through the opulent Schönbrunn palace and its immaculate grounds then savour the tempting smells as we explore the famous Naschmarket.

Alpine delight

Next we journey to picturesque Lake Bled, before touring the beautiful mountain landscapes of The Dolomites in Italy. As we cross the Swiss border, it's on to stunning St Moritz and then Zermatt as we board the famous Glacier Express and then a cable car high up into the Alps. We finish this stunning Alpine tour travelling via the lake city of Lucerne to vibrant Zurich with time to explore this cosmopolitan city at leisure.

Day 1. Depart Australia

Day 2. Arrive Munich

Welcome to Munich, capital of Bavaria! Meet your fellow travellers and Tour Director this evening for a welcome drink.

Day 3. Munich

On our morning walking tour we admire some of Munich’s iconic attractions, including the Frauenkirche church and Marienplatz, the busy town square. We explore Munich’s famous Viktualienmarkt, an original farmers market which has developed into a gourmet and culinary paradise. The afternoon is free to relax or explore at your own pace before a typical Bavarian welcome dinner this evening. [B,D]

Day 4. Munich

A stunning day trip into the hills of Bavaria lies ahead. The imposing Neuschwanstein Castle, Walt Disney’s inspiration for the Magic Kingdom, perches high above the quaint village of Hohenschwangau. Today we’ll visit the castle complete with a horse and carriage ride, along with the beautiful Schloss Linderhof and the charming town of Oberammergau, famous for the ‘Passion Play’ that takes place there once every 10 years (including this year in 2020). [B]

Day 5. Munich - Salzburg

Enjoy the beautiful alpine scenery as we make our way into Austria. Before arriving in Salzburg, we visit the infamous Eagle’s Nest. A unique engineering feat, the structure was built as a teahouse for Adolf Hitler atop Kehlstein Mountain at an elevation of 1,843m. This afternoon we’ll see the sights made famous by ‘The Sound of Music’. [B]

Day 6. Salzburg

This morning we visit the Hallein Salt Mine on the Dürrnberg plateau. In operation for more than 2,500 years, the salt from the mine provided for and brought wealth to the locals, helping fund the beautiful city of Salzburg and ensuring it would become a powerful trading community. The afternoon is at leisure. [B]

Day 7. Salzburg - Vienna

Today we travel to Vienna, Europe’s bastion of imperial grandeur and culture. Along the way we’ll visit Melk to explore its remarkable abbey and take some time to stroll through the pretty streets of Dürnstein. [B]

Day 8. Vienna

Our sightseeing in Vienna today includes Belvedere Palace, Hofburg Palace and St Stephen’s Cathedral.

Special Experience: We visit the famous Naschmarkt. Be tempted by the smells and maybe try the local specialties - Palatschinken or Kaiserschmarrn!

We then visit the impressive baroque Imperial Palace complex of Schönbrunn where we stroll through the 18th century gardens and wonder at the sheer opulence of the rooms of the Residential Palace. [B]

Day 9. Vienna

Spend the day at leisure to enjoy this glorious city at your own pace. [B]

Day 10. Vienna - Lake Bled

Today we cross the border and make our way to the picturesque town of Bled, in the heart of the Slovenian Alps, where we take a tour and see inside its fascinating medieval castle. We’ll stop in the Slovenian wine region of Maribor for a tasting and snack at one of the local wineries. [B]

Day 11. Lake Bled    

The region around Bled is one of the most beautiful in Europe, set amongst stunning mountain peaks and brimming with forests and greenery, waterfalls and streams. Here we enjoy a sightseeing tour including Bled Castle, before visiting the lake valley of Bohinj. We then visit the Alpine Dairy Farming Museum and sample delicious local cheeses accompanied by freshly baked bread, dried fruits and aperitifs. Day 12. Lake Bled - Dolomites

The Dolomites, in the northern Italian Alps, offer some of the most interesting mountain landscapes in the world. As we travel into this magnificent scenery, we’ll stop in the town of Pieve di Cadore, home to Titian, a famous Renaissance painter. We’ll take a short city tour before enjoying free time to explore here. [B]

Special Experience: We’ll make our way up the mountains to the open-air Museum of the 5 Torri, which bears the scars of WWI battles fought between the Italians and Austro-Hungarians.

Day 14. Dolomites - St Moritz

Today we cross the Swiss border and make our way to the beautiful town of St Moritz, nestled amongst forests and steep mountains with a sparkling lake as its centrepiece. [B]

Day 15. St Moritz

Not to be outdone by Pisa, we visit St Moritz’s own leaning tower on a tour of the town. We’ll also visit the Heidi Hut, used during the filming of the children’s story, and ride the funicular railway to Corviglia summit to take in the spectacular views from the top. [B]

Day 16. St Moritz - Zermatt

Special Experience: We board the famous Glacier Express to Andermatt. 

We cross the Landwasser Viaduct and enjoy the magical scenery before meeting our bus again in Andermatt. We drive deeper into the Alps to Tasch, where we board another train to reach Zermatt. [B]

Day 17. Zermatt

Special Experience: Ride a cable car up the slopes of the imposing Matterhorn to Glacier Paradise, the highest cable car station in Europe, for breathtaking views over the Italian, French and Swiss Alps. [B]

Day 18. Zermatt - Interlaken

We travel to Martigny and visit some of the mountain’s most famous inhabitants - the St Bernard dogs. We venture off the beaten track to Maison de L’Etivaz, where we stop to try some classic alpine cheese. [B]

Day 19. Interlaken

Special Experience: At 3,466 metres high and nestled between the famous mountains on Mönch and Jungfrau, it’s no surprise the Jungfraujoch is often described as the ‘Top of Europe’. Offering incredible 360-degree views, and Lindt’s Swiss Chocolate Heaven, it truly is an alpine wonderland. Today we’ll ride the cogwheel train to the Europe's highest train station at the top of the mountain. [B]

Day 20. Interlaken

Sit back and relax on a scenic cruise on Lake Brienzersee this morning. It’s the perfect way to enjoy the region’s beautiful scenery. [B]

Day 21. Interlaken - Zurich

Today we make our way to Switzerland's largest city, Zurich, via the picturesque town of Lucerne. You’ll have some free time to wander - perhaps see the famous Chapel Bridge or admire the gracious swans along the riverfront. Arriving in Zurich, we’ll take a short orientation tour. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure before tonight’s farewell dinner. [B,D]

  • Admire some of Munich’s most iconic buildings including the Frauenkirche and Marienplatz on a walking tour. Visit the Viktualienmarkt, Munich’s famous food market, and experience the Munich lifestyle at the English Garden.
  • Enjoy a traditional bavarian-style welcome dinner.
  • Visit Neuschwanstein Castle, the archetypal fairytale castle commissioned by King Ludwig II that was Walt Disney’s inspiration for Disney's Magic Kingdom. Our fairytale visit is complete as we return from the castle by horse and carriage.

At Bunnik Tours we don’t put specific age limits on our tours, but we also recognise some travellers may find our itineraries challenging.
We have a duty of care to all tour participants and the tour guides, so we do impose a firm policy on the level of fitness required by all our clients to attempt to ensure your safety and the safety of other travellers on our tours.
Our goal is for all our travellers to enjoy their tour, not struggle through it! Which is why we want to work with you to ensure you are on the best possible trip for your fitness level. We do reserve the right to refuse bookings if we feel that the requirements of the tour are too demanding.
Bunnik Tours are for independently-minded travellers with good levels of mobility.

Our tours include:
1. Generous amounts of free time
2. Lots of walking
3. Local and authentic experiences including various modes of transport and accommodation

In some regions travellers can also expect:
1. Long days of travelling, at times on dirt and gravel roads in Africa
2. Extended periods at high altitude (3,000-4,000 metres) in Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Ethiopia
3. Extended periods of walking/hiking through humid forest areas in Rwanda
4. Limited medical facilities in remote areas

Bunnik Tours travellers are required to at least:
1. Be able to walk 2-3 hours on uneven surfaces without the use of any walking aid, on any given day
2. Walk up multiple flights of stairs and short, steep hills
3. Stand for 20 minutes without needing to sit down, often in hot/humid climates
4. Carry their own luggage
5. Get on and off various modes of transport without assistance, including small boats

Described as one of the most experienced Mozart's interpreters of our time, the Vienna Mozart Orchestra is formed by 30 musicians from the best orchestras of Vienna, accompanied by opera vocalists and soloists on piano, violin and flute. The choice of works gives an impression of an authentic concert of the baroque era. In the style of 'musical academies', as concerts were known in Mozart's time, the audience enjoys single movements from symphonies and solo concertos as well as opera overtures, arias and duets from especially popular and well-known works. New Year’s Eve concert's final pieces - The Blue Danube Walt and the Radetzky March by Johann Strauss are part of every concert program. Viennese Dinner – 2hrs - from Euro €45pp
As the capital city of a vast empire, Vienna adopted a range of culinary delights from the imperial regions and mixed them with local flavours to produce what we know as traditional Viennese cooking and baking. A true "bon vivant" will know that Viennese Cuisine is the only cuisine in the world to be named after city. Enjoy a 3-course dinner with a glass of the local Austrian wine in one of the famous traditional taverns, where Viennese wine and food is served in a friendly local atmosphere.
