Welcome to Paris! We'll explore the quintessential Parisian sights including the Louvre, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Panthéon, Champs-Élysées and the Arc de Triomphe, before a free day to explore this beautiful city at leisure. Wander the character-filled Left Bank or sample the delights of the many delicious pâtisseries - the choice is yours.

Battlefields, Beaches & Brittany

We visit the stunning gardens of the late impressionist painter, Claude Monet before travelling to the battlefields and memorials of World War I, paying tribute the many lives lost at the Australian War Memorial and Museum. Admire the incredible scenery of the white chalk cliffs and visit the D-Day Beaches. We'll taste the local specialties and discover the magical medieval towns of Mont-Saint-Michel and Vannes. 

Castles & Cognac

We'll make our way inland towards the stunning chateaux and beautiful woods of the Loire Valley, then enjoy a Cognac tasting at one of the most famous Caves. Explore the amazing prehistoric Caves of Lascaux and wander the narrow streets of the heritage-listed fortified town of Carcassonne.

Southern charm

Experience the 'provençal' way of life in the Camargue, Avignon and Aix-en-Provence. We'll witness the brilliant pink salt marshes of Aigues Mortes and discover the area's stunning flora and fauna, including the wild horses and flamingos. The coast then beckons as we make our way to illustrious Cannes on the French Riviera, stopping in the port city of Marseille. We'll also visit glamorous Monte Carlo and the seaside city of Nice. We'll then cross the French Alps on our way to heritage-listed Lyon, before boarding the famous TGV train back to beautiful Paris.

Day 1. Depart Australia

Day 2. Arrive Paris

Welcome to France and the beautiful city of Paris! Meet your fellow travellers and Tour Director this evening for a welcome drink.

Day 3. Paris

This morning we’ll begin to discover this grand city. Our sightseeing includes the quintessential Parisian sights - the Louvre, Notre Dame Cathedral and the Panthéon in the Latin Quarter. We’ll travel along the Champs-Élysées to the Arc de Triomphe and the Place de la Concorde and end the morning with a visit the Montparnasse Tower for incredible panoramic views over Paris. Tonight we’ll enjoy a group welcome dinner at a local restaurant. [B,D]

Day 4. Paris

A full day at leisure in enchanting Paris. Why not explore the character-filled Left Bank, visit one of the museums or sample the delights of the many delicious pâtisseries? [B]

Day 5. Paris - Giverny - Amiens

This morning we depart for Amiens. Along the way we’ll stop in the town of Giverny to visit the stunning gardens of Impressionist painter, Claude Monet. [B]

Special Experience: We’ll then continue to Villers-Bretonneux, close to the hearts of many Australians, where we’ll pay tribute to the many lives lost during WWI at the Australian War Memorial and Museum.

Day 6. Amiens - Ouistreham

From Amiens we travel towards the coast, stopping in Etretat to admire the incredible white chalk cliffs. [B]

Special Experience: This afternoon we’ll visit a local cheese factory and one of the famous calvados distilleries to try the Normandy cider and apple brandy.

Day 7. Ouistreham

Today we visit the promontory of Pointe du Hoc and the D-Day beaches in Arromanches-les-Bains. On our way we’ll also stop in Bayeux to see the famous ancient tapestry depicting the Battle of Hastings in 1066. [B]

Day 8. Ouistreham - Vannes

Our journey continues to Brittany via Mont-Saint-Michel, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed settlement on a tiny island just off the coast, topped by a magical medieval monastery. [B]

Day 9. Vannes

This morning we discover the medieval town of Vannes before venturing to the scenic Gulf of Morbihan. We’ll explore l’Ile aux Moines on a walking tour after some free time for lunch. [B]

Day 10. Vannes - Amboise

Today we depart for the picturesque Loire Valley. Along the way we’ll stop in the troglodyte village of Rochemenier, one of the last remaining examples of an underground cave village. Later we’ll continue to Amboise and visit Le Clos-Lucé, a château that was once Da Vinci’s official residence. [B] 

Day 11. Loire Valley Excursion

Special Experience: Fairytale castles, towers, turrets, moats, drawbridges and landscaped gardens - the Loire Valley is perhaps the most romantic region in France. Today we visit two of the famous châteaux - Château de Chambord and Château de Chenonceau. [B,L]

Day 12. Amboise - Cognac - Périgueux

Special Experience: As we travel south, we’ll stop in Cognac to enjoy a tasting at the famous Les Caves Remy Martin. 

This afternoon we'll continue to the town of Périgueux, boasting a long and fascinating history dating back to prehistoric times and a host of medieval and renaissance architecture. [B]

Day 13. The Dordogne Excursion

We spend the day discovering some of the tiny villages that make up The Dordogne and visiting the UNESCO World Heritage-listed prehistoric Caves of Lascaux. [B]

Day 14. Périgueux - Carcassonne

Special Experience: We'll stop in the ‘Pink City’ of Toulouse today. Visiting the Airbus factory for a fascinating look at the production of these incredible machines.  

We then continue to Carcassonne. Here we’ll explore the narrow streets and laneways of the fortified town. [B]

Day 15. Pyrenees Excursion

This region of France offers a diverse range of incredible natural scenery. [B,L]

Day 16. Carcassonne - Camargue

As we make our way west to the Camargue, we’ll stop in Aigues Mortes to see the brilliant pink salt marsh and enjoy lunch and a wine tasting. [B,L]

Day 17. Camargue

Heading into the heart of Provence, we’ll stop in the town of Arles to visit the local market. [B,D]

Special Experience: The Camargue is famous for its wild horses and flamingos and this morning we’ll discover some of the area’s stunning flora and fauna.

Day 18. Camargue - Avignon - Aix-en-Provence - Marseille

On today’s journey, we stop to see Avignon’s famous Pont du Gard and the Palais de Papes, then have some free time for lunch. Leafy Aix is a unique blend of Provençal charm and Parisian chic. We’ll explore the town on a walking tour this afternoon. Later we’ll continue south to Marseille. [B]

Day 19. Marseille - Cannes

We’ll spend the morning discovering the port city of Marseille, before continuing to Cannes on the stunning Côte d’Azur, home of the illustrious Cannes Film Festival. [B]

Day 20. Nice & Monte Carlo Excursion

Just a short ride along the coast, we’ll make our first stop in the seaside city of Nice, an appealing mix of 19th century opulence, café culture and sunshine. We then visit glamorous Monte Carlo in the tiny Principality of Monaco, known for its casino, Grand Prix and royal family. [B]

Day 21. Cannes - Lyon

Today we venture north through the countryside to heritage-listed Lyon. [B]

Day 22. Lyon

We start our sightseeing tour today from the Hill of Fourviere, we then make our way down to Old Lyon. Next we go across to the Presqu'ile and up to Croix-Rousse Hill. The afternoon is at leisure. [B] 

Day 23. Lyon - Paris

This afternoon we transfer to the train station to board the famous TGV back to ever-romantic Paris. We’ll enjoy a group farewell dinner this evening. [B,D]

Day 24. Depart Paris

Today we begin our journey home. [B]

At Bunnik Tours we don’t put specific age limits on our tours, but we also recognise some travellers may find our itineraries challenging.
We have a duty of care to all tour participants and the tour guides, so we do impose a firm policy on the level of fitness required by all our clients to attempt to ensure your safety and the safety of other travellers on our tours.
At Bunnik Tours our goal is for all our travellers to enjoy their tour, not struggle through it! Which is why we want to work with you to ensure you are on the best possible trip for your fitness level. We do reserve the right to refuse bookings if we feel that the requirements of the tour are too demanding.
Bunnik Tours are for independently minded travellers with good levels of mobility.

Our tours include:
1. Generous amounts of free time
2. Lots of walking
3. Local and authentic experiences including various modes of transport and accommodation

In some regions travellers can also expect:
1. Long days of travelling, at times on dirt and gravel roads in Africa
2. Extended periods at high altitude (3,000-4,000 metres) in Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Ethiopia
3. Extended periods of walking/hiking through humid forest areas in Rwanda
4. Limited medical facilities in remote areas

Bunnik Tours travellers are required to at least:
1. Be able to walk 2-3 hours on uneven surfaces
2. Walk up multiple flights of stairs and short, steep hills
3. Stand for 20 minutes without needing to sit down, often in hot/humid climates
4. Carry their own luggage
5. Get on and off various modes of transport without assistance, including small boats
