Explore the grand cities of Paris and Rome and the picturesque coastline of the Cinque Terre. Take in the views across spectacular Lake Como, experience the glamour of the French Riviera, and indulge in the local produce of Parma, Tuscany and the Loire Valley.

When in Rome

Our tour starts in the Eternal City of Rome we when visit the Roman Forum, Piazza Venezia and Colosseum where gladiatorial contests were watched by up to 50,000 people! We also indulge in history & art as we explore the Vatican Museum, the celebrated Sistine Chapel and St Peter’s Basilica.

Taste of Tuscany

We then head to Florence stopping enroute at the UNESCO World Heritage-listed towns of Siena and San Gimignano. Our city tour of Florence includes the grand Piazza del Duomo, the famous statue of David, and a unique Tuscan dinner at Agriturismo.

Cinque Terre to Paris

Our journey continues along Italy's most photographed coastlines, Cinque Terre with its colourful villages & steep terraces. As we cross the French border we visit Cannes home to the famous film festival and Nice before visiting Avignon & the Loire Valley with its wonderful vineyards and fairy-tale scenery. Our tour ends in Paris with time to enjoy the iconic sights and gastronomic delights of this romantic city!

Day 1. Depart Australia

Day 2. Arrive Rome

Welcome to vibrant Italy and the beautiful Eternal City of Rome! Meet your fellow travellers and Tour Director for a welcome drink this evening. 

Day 3. Rome

This morning we explore Imperial Rome. Highlights include the Colosseum (fast-track entry), where gladiatorial contests and games were held along with mock sea battles and executions, the Roman Forum, Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. The afternoon is at leisure before tonight’s group welcome dinner. [B,D] 

Day 4. Rome

Discover majestic Vatican City this morning (fast-track entry). We’ll visit the amazing Vatican Museum, the Sistine Chapel and St Peter’s Basilica - all containing works of art and sculptures by Michelangelo. [B]

Day 5. Rome - Florence

Today we travel north to the home of the Renaissance, Florence. Stopping en route, we’ll visit the UNESCO World Heritage-listed towns of Siena and San Gimignano. [B,D]

Special Experience: This evening we’ll enjoy a special Tuscan dinner at an agriturismo (farmstay), using local produce and ingredients.

Day 6. Florence

Our tour this morning commences at the grand Piazza del Duomo, where we see the Cathedral, Giotto’s Bell Tower, and the Baptistery. We’ll also admire Michelangelo’s sculptural masterpiece, the statue of David, at the famous Galleria dell’Accademia. We’ll end our sightseeing at the Piazzale Michelangelo, offering panoramic views over Florence. [B]

Day 7. Florence - La Spezia

Sit back and enjoy the beautiful Tuscan countryside as we travel to Pisa, home to one of Europe’s most iconic structures - the Leaning Tower. This afternoon we’ll head towards the coast and the stunning Cinque Terre. [B] 

Day 8. Cinque Terre Excursion

Special Experience: We spend a full day exploring some of Italy’s most photographed coastline, discovering some of the five colourful villages that make up the Cinque Terre. Clinging to steep terraces, the villages and ancient vineyards are linked by paths, trains and boats and cannot be accessed by car, making this a truly unique area. [B,L]

Day 9. La Spezia - Parma - Lake Como

The birthplace of parmesan cheese and prosciutto, we’ll stop in the stylish city of Parma to taste the local delicacies. In the afternoon we’ll arrive in the idyllic Italian Lake District at stunning Lake Como. [B] 

Day 10. Lake Como

We’ll take a walking tour of Como before we ride the funicular railway for views from high above the picturesque town.

Day 11. Lake Como - Cannes

Departing Como, we cross the French border and make our way to the seaside city of Nice. We’ll then continue along the stunning Côte d’Azur to Cannes, home of the illustrious Cannes Film Festival. [B]

Day 12. Monte Carlo Excursion

Just a short ride along the coast, we’ll visit glamorous Monte Carlo in the tiny Principality of Monaco, known for its casino, Grand Prix and royal family. [B]

Day 13. Cannes

Enjoy a day at leisure on the beautiful French Riviera. [B]

Day 14. Cannes - Avignon

We travel inland through the countryside, stopping for some time at leisure in the elegant Aix-en-Provence. [B]

Day 15. Avignon

This morning we’ll see the Palais des Papes, the largest gothic palace ever built.

Special Experience: We explore one of the most famous wine regions in the world, centred around the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. We’ll discover ancient vineyards, learn about the winemaking process and taste the famous red wine. [B]

This afternoon we’ll visit Avignon’s famous Pont du Gard, an amazing feat of Roman engineering. [B] 

Day 16. Avignon - Lyon

We travel to sophisticated Lyon, France’s third-largest city. Our afternoon’s sightseeing tour includes the Roman District, Vieux Lyon, the silk district and the Presqu’île. [B]

Day 17. Lyon - Beaujolais - Loire Valley

Today we make our way to the beautiful Loire Valley, where wines such as sauvignon blanc and chenin blanc originated. We’ll enjoy a wine tasting experience along the way in Beaujolais. [B,L]

Day 18. Loire Valley

Special Experience: Fairytale castles, towers, turrets, moats, drawbridges and landscaped gardens - the Loire Valley is perhaps the most beautiful in France. Today we visit Château de Chambord and Château de Chenonceau. [B]

Day 19. Loire Valley - Paris

We transfer to the train station and travel on the famous TGV to the beautiful city of Paris! Our orientation tour here includes the quintessential Parisian icons - the Louvre, Notre Dame Cathedral and the Panthéon. We’ll travel along the Champs-Élysées to the Arc de Triomphe and the Place de la Concorde. [B]

At Bunnik Tours we don’t put specific age limits on our tours, but we also recognise some travellers may find our itineraries challenging.
We have a duty of care to all tour participants and the tour guides, so we do impose a firm policy on the level of fitness required by all our clients to attempt to ensure your safety and the safety of other travellers on our tours.
At Bunnik Tours our goal is for all our travellers to enjoy their tour, not struggle through it! Which is why we want to work with you to ensure you are on the best possible trip for your fitness level. We do reserve the right to refuse bookings if we feel that the requirements of the tour are too demanding.
Bunnik Tours are for independently minded travellers with good levels of mobility.

Our tours include:
1. Generous amounts of free time
2. Lots of walking
3. Local and authentic experiences including various modes of transport and accommodation

In some regions travellers can also expect:
1. Long days of travelling, at times on dirt and gravel roads in Africa
2. Extended periods at high altitude (3,000-4,000 metres) in Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Ethiopia
3. Extended periods of walking/hiking through humid forest areas in Rwanda
4. Limited medical facilities in remote areas

Bunnik Tours travellers are required to at least:
1. Be able to walk 2-3 hours on uneven surfaces
2. Walk up multiple flights of stairs and short, steep hills
3. Stand for 20 minutes without needing to sit down, often in hot/humid climates
4. Carry their own luggage
5. Get on and off various modes of transport without assistance, including small boats

Accommodation is subject to change and every effort is made to avoid this. However if a change does become necessary, accommodation of a similar standard will be used.

Hotel Ariston, Rome

The elegant Hotel Ariston is located just 130 m from Roma Termini Train Station, and a 5-minute walk from the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore.

The rooms are spacious and classically furnished, with tiled or parquet floors. Some rooms have been recently renovated and are complete with a tea/coffee maker and an LCD TV.

Cellai Hotel, Florence

Located in the heart of Florence, Cellai Hotel is 5 minutes' walk from Accademia Gallery with Michelangelo's David and a 10-minute walk from Santa Maria Novella Train Station. It has a roof terrace with views over Florence's rooftops and hills. Original paintings and antiques are on display in its many lounges and reading rooms. You can listen to jazz music in the library with an honesty bar. Contemporary art exhibitions are held on site monthly.

CDH My One Hotel, La Spezia

Hotel Como, Como

Hotel Como is situated in downtown Como at a 10 minute walk from the city’s historical centre and a 20 minute stroll from its beautiful lake and landmarks including the Duomo, the Brunate Funicular and Villa Olmo. The hotel features spacious rooms with wooden flooring, an outdoor swimming pool on the roof terrace, free gym use and bicycle rental, restaurant and bar.
