A feast for the senses

We travel north from Milan to beautiful Lago Maggiore, the perfect place to relax and admire the idyllic settings of the famous Lake District. In Parma, enjoy the Parmesan Cheese and prosciutto and then sample the region’s famous balsamic vinegar in Modena. Try the local tortellini and taste your way through the Gelato Museum in Bologna. Through the medieval city of Ferrara, we make our way to ever-romantic Venice to discover its hidden piazzas, lane and waterways and enjoy the old-world charm.

Alpine Adventure

In the northern Italian Alps we’ll enjoy some of the most interesting mountain scenery in the world, characterised by craggy peaks, and discover some of the area’s unique war history. We cross the border into Slovenia to the picturesque alpine town of Bled. Taste locally produced cheeses, tour the castle and enjoy the forest setting.

The sparkling Adriatic

We venture east into Croatia and stunning Plitvice Lakes National Park, a series of 16 terraced lakes and falls renowned for their azure, green and blue colouring. In Zadar board a deluxe yacht for a 7-night cruise down the picturesque Dalmatian coast, taking in the towns and islands of Split, Hvar, Korcula and Dubrovnik.

Day 1. Depart Australia

Day 2. Arrive Milan - Lago Maggiore

Welcome to northern Italy! After arriving in Milan, we transfer to Lago Maggiore in the beautiful Lake District. Meet your fellow travellers and Tour Director this evening for a welcome drink.

Day 3. Lago Maggiore

Spend a perfect day discovering this stunning location. Visit the islands and enjoy the views looking out over the brilliant blue lake, dotted with tiny, flower-filled islets. Tonight we’ll enjoy a group welcome dinner. [B,D]

Day 4. Lake Como Excursion

Enjoy a walking tour of beautiful Lake Como today. Here we ride the funicular railway to enjoy the views from high above the picturesque city. We then take a scenic cruise on Lake Como to the beautiful town of Bellagio, enjoy the views and admire the charming villas adorning the shore.  [B]

Day 5. Lago Maggiore - Bologna

On our way to Bologna we stop in the town of Parma, the birthplace of parmesan cheese and prosciutto. We’ll enjoy a tasting and sightseeing tour before continuing to Modena. We’ll taste some of the balsamic vinegar for which the area is famous. [B]

Day 6. Bologna

Characterised by its red-brick palazzi and lengthy porticos, the city of Bologna is also famous for its cuisine. We’ll discover the sights, and tastes, on a walking food tour. [B,L]

Day 7. Bologna - Venice

Today we make our way to ever-romantic Venice, stopping along the way in the medieval city of Ferrara, one of Italy's hidden treasures best known for its Renaissance buildings. [B]

Day 8. Venice

A place like no other, a day exploring Venice will leave lasting memories. Today’s highlights include Piazza San Marco and the Basilica. We'll also witness magic in the hands of a master craftsman at a traditional glass blowing factory. [B]

Day 9. Venice - Dolomites

Enjoy the views as we make our way to the Dolomites in the northern Italian Alps, also known as the ‘fossil archipelago’. [B]

Day 10. Dolomites

Day 11. Dolomites - Lake Bled

We cross the border this morning and make our way to the picturesque town of Bled, in the heart of the Slovenian Alps. [B]

The region around Bled is one of the most beautiful in Europe. Here we enjoy a wonderful sightseeing tour including a visit to Bled Castle. [B]

Day 13. Postojna & Ljubljana Excursion

Today we explore the incredible Postojna Caves, with more than 20km of passages, galleries and chambers. We’ll also stop in the leafy capital of Ljubljana for a sightseeing tour. [B]

Day 14. Lake Bled - Plitvice Lakes NP

This morning we cross the border and stop in Zagreb, the Croatian capital. We'll take a morning sightseeing tour of this fascinating city. After lunch, we travel to stunning Plitvice Lakes National Park. These 16 terraced lakes are renowned for their distinctive colours, ranging from azure to green, grey and blue. [B,D]

Day 15. Plitvice Lakes NP

Day 16. Plitvice Lakes NP - Zadar

Embark Cruise: After breakfast we transfer to the port of Zadar to board our deluxe yacht for a cruise along the picturesque Dalmatian coast. Tonight enjoy a welcome dinner on board the ship. [B,D]

Day 17. Cruising: Zadar - Sali

Zadar’s Old Town centre is perfect for exploring on foot. Discover its 16th century relics on a walking tour this morning. After lunch we set sail for Sali. This evening is at your leisure. [B,L]

Day 18. Cruising: Sali - Sibenik

Explore the coast’s beautiful national parks today. Visit Kornati this morning, home to more than 140 islets with numerous coves and crystal-clear waters, and discover magnificent Krka Falls this afternoon. This evening is at your leisure. [B,L]

Day 19. Cruising: Sibenik - Trogir - Split

After a morning sailing we visit the UNESCO World Heritage-listed town of Trogir before continuing to stunning Split. Here we’ll take a walking tour of the historic city centre. This evening is at leisure for you to explore. [B,L]

Day 20. Cruising: Split - Bol - Hvar

This morning we anchor in Bol, said to have the best beach in Croatia - the Golden Horn. We continue to the beautiful island of Hvar this afternoon. We'll enjoy a sightseeing tour to see Europe's first public theatre and the Franciscan Monastery. This evening is at your leisure. [B,L]

Day 21. Cruising: Hvar - Korčula - Mljet

We arrive in Korčula in the early afternoon and enjoy a walking tour of its character-filled cobbled streets. Later we sail to the lovely island of Mljet and tour the Great and Small Lakes in the national park. Enjoy a captain’s dinner tonight. [B,L,D]

Day 22. Cruising: Mljet - Dubrovnik

We sail into Dubrovnik, the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’. Our sightseeing will include the Bell Tower Clock, Orlando’s Column and Sponza Palace. [B,L]

At Bunnik Tours we don’t put specific age limits on our tours, but we also recognise some travellers may find our itineraries challenging.
We have a duty of care to all tour participants and the tour guides, so we do impose a firm policy on the level of fitness required by all our clients to attempt to ensure your safety and the safety of other travellers on our tours.
At Bunnik Tours our goal is for all our travellers to enjoy their tour, not struggle through it! Which is why we want to work with you to ensure you are on the best possible trip for your fitness level. We do reserve the right to refuse bookings if we feel that the requirements of the tour are too demanding.
Bunnik Tours are for independently minded travellers with good levels of mobility.

Our tours include:
1. Generous amounts of free time
2. Lots of walking
3. Local and authentic experiences including various modes of transport and accommodation

In some regions travellers can also expect:
1. Long days of travelling, at times on dirt and gravel roads in Africa
2. Extended periods at high altitude (3,000-4,000 metres) in Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Ethiopia
3. Extended periods of walking/hiking through humid forest areas in Rwanda
4. Limited medical facilities in remote areas

Bunnik Tours travellers are required to at least:
1. Be able to walk 2-3 hours on uneven surfaces
2. Walk up multiple flights of stairs and short, steep hills
3. Stand for 20 minutes without needing to sit down, often in hot/humid climates
4. Carry their own luggage
5. Get on and off various modes of transport without assistance, including small boats

Hotel Villa Argentina, Pocol

Situated in the heart of the Dolomites in the resort village of Pocol in Cortina d'Ampezzo, the Hotel Villa Argentina boasts a stunning location surrounded by meadows and conifer forests. The property features a fames room, restaurant, bar and relaxation area with hydro massage and sauna/Turkish bath. Rooms are cosy and comfortable and overlook the surrounding mountains.

Ethno Houses Plitvica Selo

Located in the heart of Plitvička Jezera National Park, about 400 metres from the highest waterfall, Ethno Houses Plitvica Selo is situated in the rural environment, within the forest area and pristine nature of the national park. Ethno Houses are built in wood and stone, using natural traditional materials with modern equipment for a unique experience. Made of dark wood, all rooms are elegantly decorated and fitted with a king-size bed, a desk and a seating area.

MS Karizma

The wonderful MS Karizma, a superior yacht, newly built with latest state-of-the-art equipment and amenities. It features 19 cabins on the main and lower decks, all fully air-conditioned, with queen-size bed or twin beds with possibility for an additional bed, cupboard, cabinet and window or porthole, bathroom with shower, toilette and wash basin. It has fully air conditioned salon-restaurant on the main deck with bar and LCD TV, two sun decks of 1,076 sq ft, one of which has sun beds and tables. Electricity on board: 220V.

MS Adriatic Queen

26 April, 6 & 27 September 2019 departures only. The superior M/S Adriatic Queen was completely renovated in 2017 with latest state-of-the-art equipment and amenities. This boutique ship offers a maximum capacity of 30 passengers in 15 cabins. All cabins are all fully air-conditioned, with queen-size or twin beds, cupboard, cabinet and window or porthole, bathroom with shower, toilette and wash basin. Free wireless internet access (Wi-Fi) is provided. The ship features a fully air-conditioned salon-restaurant with bar and LCD TV. The large sun deck features a 6-person jacuzzi, and provides sun-shade cover and deck-beds for all passengers.
Electricity on board: 220V.

Please note: The M/S Adriatic Queen is only used on our 26 April, 6 & 27 September 2019 departures. All other departures use the M/S Karizma.
