Forget the Greek Islands, here are two coastal towns in Greece that are equally as charming and beautiful to explore.

Nafpaktos, Greece

Nafpaktos, Greece

Nafpaktos

Located in central Greece, Nafpaktos is a relatively untouched coastal gem. On the coast of the Gulf of Corinth, Nafpaktos may be small in size but packs a punch with its Venetian architecture, narrow cobblestone streets and vibrant bar and restaurant scene. The Old Port is bustling with local fishermen and sailors going about their day whilst the picturesque beaches provide relief during those hot summer days. Built against a hill, the town is overlooked by its castle with walls that extend to the coastline and once protected the town. From within the castle’s walls are some of the best views out across the Gulf of Corinth.

With a relatively low number of tourists, a visit to Nafpaktos will captivate you as you get a taste of local life in this picturesque town.

Nafplio

Known as one of Greece’s most romantic towns, Nafplio is a coastal escape just 2 hours from bustling Athens. A popular destination for Athens locals, Nafplio is a busy town with charm and character at every turn. Tavernas, bars, and boutiques flood the Old Town’s narrow streets that are lined with neoclassical architecture.

The town is also the gateway to some of Greece’s finest local produce. Escape the lively town and meet the locals of Greece who produce fine food and wine. Get to know the way they cook during a Mediterranean cooking demonstration and sample some wine at a local winery.
