• Liechtenstein is one of the world's smallest countries, covering just 160 square kilometres.
• It is one of only two doubly landlocked countries in the world, meaning it is surrounded entirely by other landlocked countries (Austria and Switzerland). The only other country that can make the same claim is Uzbekistan.
• Despite its tiny size, Liechtenstein is one of the wealthiest countries in the world on a per-capita basis.

• Liechtenstein has no airport. Visitors typically arrive via neighbouring Switzerland or Austria.

Australian passport holders travelling to Liechtenstein do not require a visa for short tourist visits. Liechtenstein is part of the Schengen Area.

We require that your passport is valid for travel for at least six months from the date you are planning to return to Australia. Your passport must be valid to travel internationally and must be machine-readable. You should also carry proof of onward or return travel.

Whether travelling on an Australian passport or the passport of another country, all travellers are responsible for ensuring they meet current entry requirements prior to departure.

There is no Australian embassy in Liechtenstein. Consular assistance is provided through the Australian Embassy in Switzerland.

The official currency of Liechtenstein is the Swiss Franc (CHF). Notes come in denominations of CHF1000, 200, 100, 50, 20 and 10.

Credit and debit cards are widely accepted throughout the country and ATMs are readily available.

Advise your bank of your travel plans prior to departure and carry a small amount of cash for incidental purchases.

Liechtenstein's cuisine shares many similarities with neighbouring Switzerland and Austria. Traditional dishes include Käsknöpfle (cheese dumplings), rösti, sausages, alpine cheeses and hearty mountain fare. Local wines produced in the Rhine Valley are surprisingly good and well worth sampling.

Liechtenstein enjoys an Alpine climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are generally warm and pleasant, with temperatures averaging between 20°C and 28°C. Winters are cold, particularly in the mountain regions, where snowfall is common and ski areas operate from December through March. Spring and autumn are ideal for sightseeing and hiking, offering mild temperatures and beautiful mountain scenery.

Liechtenstein is compact and easy to explore. A reliable bus network connects the country's towns and villages, while many visitors choose to walk or cycle between attractions. The capital, Vaduz, is easily explored on foot.

The nearest international transport hubs are Zurich in Switzerland and Innsbruck in Austria.
