The picturesque Julian Alps serve as a magnificent backdrop to one of Slovenia’s most picturesque locations, Lake Bled. This natural wonder draws thousands of visitors each year to experience its charm, romance and serenity. Exploring Lake Bled feels like stepping onto the set of a fairy-tale, with an island in the middle of the lake reachable via traditional wooden boats and home to an enchanting church. During spring and summer, the sapphire-toned waters and luscious green trees blend to create the ultimate lakeside getaway. Autumn is the season for unparalleled beauty as the trees develop orange and red hues, and during winter the lake turns into a winter wonderland as inches of snow descend around the lake.
Perched atop a cliff and high above Lake Bled is Bled Castle. Built in approximately 1011, the castle is the oldest in Slovenia and boasts some of the best views of the lake and its surrounding landscape. The castle has played host to many moments in Bled and Slovenia’s history, and a walk through its walls and into the rooms of the castle is a chance to step back in time and learn about the country’s history, before stepping out onto the castle’s terrace and taking in the stunning view.
